ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- An Adams County deputy and a suspect exchanged gunfire late Thursday afternoon in the 6600 block of Federal Boulevard and both were injured, according to officials.
The deputy did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, but the condition of the suspect was not immediately known. Both were rushed to hospitals.
Investigators said the incident began around 5 p.m. when the deputy attempted to make contact with a suspect reported as a "suspicious person" by a citizen.
The two got into a gunfight at some point, according to a public information officer.
It was not known what prompted the gunfire, or who fired first.
Federal Boulevard was closed from 64th Avenue to 70th Avenue while investigators pored over the shooting scene for additional evidence.
