They were forced to hop up the Mustang and put bald tires on the Charger. Even at that, the Charger could stomp the Mustang. I had an interesting article about that...

Here it is!

On another note in The Punisher , I was hoping for a good chase with the GOT and Roadrunner, but I ended up feeling cheated.

Best chase scene in a movie, ever. Chank up the volume. It's awesome how there is no talking during the entire chase. I wish NASCAR was like that.

Second the motion!

There have been many other chase sequences, even movies that were a car chase from the start until the end. But Bullitt has the best ever filmed. You can see it coming. But until you suddenly hear the music stop with the squeal of tires, you are anticipating something entirely different.

With the cameras located inside the cars, you can almost feel getting car sick as the two cars bounce along San Francisco’s hilly streets. One street, bump, while the car settles on a level cross roadway for an instant, then another fast decent before another crossroad comes along. Add in the constant changes in engine speed as the two cars go from left, right, down and up the streets. During the chase sequence you can see where the car smashed into the camera. They kept a few frames of it in there.

And it isn’t until later that you realize, that from when McQueen got into his car to when he is in his Captains office AFTER the chase is over, nobody has said a single word. No grunts, moans, curses, whispers of any kind come from the three actors involved in one of the best, if not the greatest car chase in motion picture history

Best car chase scene before Gone in 60 Seconds. If you are a true gearhead, then this movie is a "must own" for you.

The original, not the Nick Cage remake.

"Blues Brothers" should be in the top 5 car chases IMHO. The chase thru the mall is more realistic but the "106 miles to Chicago..." chase is so over the top that it's in a class al of it's own.

Mad Max & The Road Warrior ranks up there also.

I've read that the sound for the Mustang was a dub from a GT40. Very cool movie, My sister gave me it and the original gone in 60 seconds on DVD for my birthday a couple of years ago.

Is this movie available on DVD? I've been looking for it for 10 years.

I watched this movie in a theater when it first came out. I was ten years old and I can tell you it was a thrilling experience because you felt as though you were riding in the back seat of Steve's Mustang as the car launched through the air. For a brief moment the only thing visible in the windshield was the blue Pacific Ocean... and then the car slammed into the asphalt just to repeat the process over again as it raced down the hills of San Francisco.

That movie left a lasting impression on me and I am still a big McQueen fan to this day.
