The best remedy I have ever seen is learning to loathe pornography and all it stands for. If a person truly dedicates themselves to God and allows the power of The Holy Spirit to have free reign in their life, eventually they will come to see pornography like God sees it, and their addiction will thus be broken. When they crucify the flesh and look to their relationship with God as their primary motivation in life, their addictions to porn will be broken. They will eventually have the mind of Christ on the matter.

"1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

I hope this doesn't get me into trouble, but I think certain priests should check into their sexual deviancy, before the catholic church looses any more money.

Not a jab on Catholics, but geez louise....

Everytime the desire crops up, crucify it. Speak against it. Quote scriptures about lust outloud.

It may seem silly, but remember that Christ overcame the temptation of Satan by speaking God's word. Satan, having every angle of attack met by scripture, eventually gave up.

It works.

I have problems with the term "sexual addiction" for Christians.

There is righteousness, and there is sin.

Sin is NOT an addiction, which is a manmade term excusing chosen behaviours. (I'll allow for eventual true chemical dependencies of narcotics, and in extreme cases alcohol)

Sin is always a choice for a Christian.

Romans 6:6 - Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. ( unless we choose to. )

No Christian is slave to any sin - we only choose to entangle ourselves, and in the power of God are free to walk away from it any time.

Very well said.

I have to avoid porn as much as is humanly possible. Sexual desires are certainly one of my weaknesses if I don't keep them in line.

I find singing a hymn to myself very helpful. Contemplating the Gospel of Jesus Christ is another great help.

garandman also makes a good point. There is nothing wrong with my sexual desires towards my wife. If my wife and I want to have a romping good time together several times a day there is nothing wrong so long as we aren't doing anything degrading to one another.

It is sex outside the boundries set by the Lord that is sinful.

Exactly.

Learn to see it for the death trap that it is. Learn to love God to the point that you want nothing to interfere with your communion with Him.

Do those things, and you will have victory. Not to say that you won't ever be tempted by some half dressed chicky snack, but if you rebuke your flesh immediately you won't feel the draw of temptation.

When it comes to your wife, lust your brains out. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, as you starve your eyes of impure images and your mind of impure thoughts, you will find that your appetite for your wife will actually increase, which has a pretty positive effect on your relationship.

These days I enjoy pr0n for about 10 seconds (on the rare occasions I view it)

After 10 seconds, I think about how I am disrespecting the beautiful wife God gave me.

I think about how cheap and tawdry that kind of sexual (ah - hemmmm) titillation is compared the beautiful sexual relations with my wife.

I think about the Savior who died for me, who is grieved by my lust, who loves me despite my wickedness and shows me His longsufferring patience to bring me back to Himself.

Pr0n is the cesspool. Sex with my wife is ....well.....cherry pie.

Yup. Pr0n looks very exciting and inviting until I take a step back and see it for what it really is. The women involved are selling themselves, literally, for money. There's no real love involved. No affection. Nothing to make it any more than a commodity.

The women in Pr0n would never be there to take care of me if I was sick. They wouldn't nurture my children. All these women want is money, and they're hoping that I'll pay for them to tease me. There's nothing wholesome about them. In fact, most look hardened. They literally wouldn't care if I existed tomorrow, so long as there's always someone to pay for their services.

Then there's my wife. She is wholesome. She does nurture my children and takes great care of them. She does love me. Intimacy with her satisfies my physical desires and provides an emotional bond. She's my best friend.

So, in short, Pr0n is a lie. It's a false advertisement. It offers intimacy, but only provides hollow lust. It never satisfies.

Ummm, it's entertainment. People who get in trouble with it, would have gotten in trouble in other ways eventually. This being said, I can understand (and have understood) a woman's objection in thinking it's quazi cheating.

Look carefully at the most vocal porn enemies, and you'll often see someone who can't handle it as entertainment and is running from it's lure and in the process is trying to make everyone take notice of his objection.

No, actually, you can't.

Proverbs has some pretty good insight that is quite applicable. Things like "Keep your way far away from her, and do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others..." speaking of the adultress (Chapter 5)

The problem with Christians is that when we (including me) put ourselves in situations where we KNOW the temptation and the opportunity for sin is there, add to the mix a good dose of sin nature, and it's little wonder why we fall.

So do not go near the door of her house. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. The point is, avaoid the situations where you'll be tempted, rely on the Spirit to continue rooting the sin out of your heart, understand that you'll never fully get there on this earth, and that said, "Put to death therefore what is earthly in you:sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." Col 3

In all seriousness, I'm making a valid point with a little humor. You could use a little humor injection.

"Proving" something is correct by quoting it is absurd.

I hope this isn't considered to be rude, but it needs to be said:

Your comments are neither humorous nor useful, and you made no point.

Remember, this pitiful excuse for a forum is SUPPOSED to be ran like a technical forum.

You have violated the CoC with your previous post.

I'm eagerly awaiting action by the moderators on this issue.

Not only did you violate the CoC, but you obviously have malicious intent in mind.

Your comments are rude, crude, insulting, and would be so regardless of where you put them, but, in theory, they are prohibited in this forum.

I apologize for offending you. I assure you that I have no malicious intent. I just disagree emphatically with some of the silliness I've read, and I usually make my points with dry humor. I don't think ill of you or anyone else here. I just think you're about as serious as syphilis in a monastary. Lighten up, broaden your mind, and have a little fun. It's a post on a gun board about Christians with sexual addictions. How technical did you think the discussion was going to be??

I'm sorry, but you miss the point.

Sexual addiction - of any sort - IS serious business to Christians.

The discussion would have been completely serious - as it was intended, I believe - had non-Christians not shown up to troll it.

Whether you realize it or not, some of us DO take our faith - and all of its implications - seriously.

And we would sincerely like for that to be respected.

Ask questions if you have them, lurk all you want, but please stop the trolling.

Check out Matthew 5, Christ's teachings on lust. Then look the other way.

Easier said than done.

ETA: Now that I have more than 30 seconds to respond, look also at Phil 4:8 (emphasis on pure), Proverbs 11:6, and James 1:15 describes why desire-lust-is harmful.

Hope this helps

I often avert my eyes from scantily clad women, checkout registers, and even football games on TV. Sexualioty is everywhere, its Americas religion.

Too often I lose the battle of the pure thought life. Forces me back to CHrist who can and will help me win the war in His power.

You guys could no live where I do...Shore towns. A bikini top and Daisy dukes are modestly dressed in the summer.

But on the serious note Christians and sexuality is an issue. I lost a good friend to a fundamental Christian cult. Yes I can make that Judgement, I know them, I watched the Reverend argue with the Methodist Church over money, then he was asked to leave. I watched him create his own cult, using the fear of death in older people to build bigger and better church compounds.

My friend left his wife over not having sex with her and how frumpy she was, She lived the Church, Her brothers wife wore normal shore clothes, she was a bible toting wman. He went back, because his 12 yo son was taken into a room by the Church elders, and told he caused it, and made to sit in a chair, crying.

I lost my friend, because no matter what we had gone thriough, I am a Jew and didn't have Jesus in my life.

Case two, my GF who would do it a few times a day, was known to wear a long coat and high heels....for me..... got involved with a defrocked Priest and his cult. He knew I saw through him, we broke up....she married aguy and they gave their lives and house to this new religion, well he eventually needed it for bail, he was caught raping women in the church (sic). She went from a very hot woman to a bible toting long dress, only with the lights off drone.

Case three when I was growing up several families left the church.....they were rumored to have been swapping, hell it was the 60s. All sorts of old biddys talking, I lost my best friend. Wel their deviant sexual nature was no worse than the church lady that was trying ot hit on me when I was 17.

The problem is that all three churches had an unrealistic view on human sexuality, they forced people to be in their mold.

For you guys concerned with your sexual desires, do not try to hide them.. learn to direct them in a better way, Rabbi Boteach, a Lubbavitch and very conservative, deals with this. Simple have an affair with your wife...the teachings of Judiasm are applied to it. Maybe I shall start a thred using his advice

Generally speaking, I agree with this advice.

Sex is a gift from God. It should not be exploited or abused, but it should be enjoyed.

The true beauty of sex is not the what (orgasm, enjoying each others bodies, tho that's purdy darned good) but the who (a one-ness with the beautiful person God gave me as my wife.)
