Unf*cking believeable. Because of their one child policy, some parents lost their only offspring who were studying in New Zealand. OK. I feel sorry, but to ask for financial compensation is outrageous. Link

Last time I checked you can make another one, and it's fun too.

They are getting compensation from the NZ government for the children killed. (as is anyone with a killed child or partner)
The Chinese government has complained that it is not enough money. They want more for any Chinese citizens, since the Chinese one child policy will make life hard for the parents in retirement. [In China kids are your living 401K, no kid, no retirement funds, it's a Chinese thing.] [Deal is once the parents get to retirement age, the kids pay for everything for parents] |

I want compensation from the chicom fucks for killing my brother in Korea.

This is par for the course. Their culture seems to be pretty ethnocentric in my experiences with women and co-workers. My experience with dating a Chinese girl was that her parents thought that every American should accomodate their particular traditions and piss on the Americans culture whose country they had been living in for 20 years. Uneffingbelievable.
I remember my then girlfriend chewing me out for not shaking her mom's hand. "But Laurie, it's considered rude in the South and you are supposed to wait until the lady extends her hand" "But my mom doesn't know the culture of the South" "How long have they been living here?" "20 years" " Don't you think it's about time...?????" Too bad about your fucked up 'one child' policy. NZ needs to tell them to fuck off. |
|
Why don't they sue the Chinese government, they are the ones with the stupid policy.
|
|
So they were expected to live for another 60 years? At $25 a year, their expected net worth, that is just $1500 per

In China, you owe more money if you injure someone than if you kill them. That is why when you are hit by a car in China, they sometimes put it in reverse to finish the job.

They're feeling their geo-political oats and now they're looking for a reason to test NZ and see how far they can push them around.

I think NZ is one of the few countries still happy to tell others to F-off.

hey chicoms... fuck you
your perfect little kid should not have left china if they wanted to be safe. after all, its so safe in china... with all that product safety and building codes... |

just to give you an idea of local response
Firstly the headline China demands special treatment for Christchurch earthquake dead International students killed in the Christchurch earthquake should be treated the same as Kiwis, Labour [Political party in opposition currently] leader Phil Goff says. His comments follow claims by a Chinese official that their families should get more money because of the country's one child policy. Mr Goff said government could not make decisions based on foreign countries policies. "I'm sorry you can't base your policy on that, there may be many students here that are only children in their families whether they be Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Filipino." However, all international students and their families must be treated fairly and equally. The families of visitors killed in New Zealand are eligible for a one-off funeral grant of up to $4500 and a one-off survival grant of $4700 for a spouse and $2351 per child or dependent. Families of foreigners working here are also eligible for weekly compensation. up to $9200 isn't a lot, but it is enough for a reasonable funeral, and airfares, and such. Beyond that, that is why people have life insurance. The obvious question then is why don't the Chinese insure the lives of their kids if they are so financially critical to their well-being. |

Er...you're a guest in a foreign country, that country's government has little in the way of financial responsibility for you, outside thier own negligence. Period. The Chinese are just milking a tragedy. Not shocking. The Chinese government is the international expert on the concept of killing your parents, but requesting clemency because you're an orphan. |

I think it's amazing that they are getting anything. Typical third world mentality... even when they are sitting on trillions of dollars.
Earth to China: you don't give out compensation when foreigners (or native people) die prematurely in your country. Quoted:

Chinese denied Christchurch earthquake compensation
Prime Minister John Key said the Government felt great sympathy for the families but would not change its policy. "We have a policy under ACC and it applies to internationals just as much as it does locals." The students would probably have had insurance and their families were eligible for Red Cross funds. "Outside of that, at this stage we don't have any intention to make any other changes." Translation : STFU |

The US government paid money to the families of people killed on 9/11.
It's not a terribly foreign idea. |

NZ should send China a bill for excavating their remains and for shipment of remains to China. The bill should be for one dollar more than what China wants.

I am out of the loop on this one, sorry for my ignorance..
Why would any nation be financially responsible for death due to natural disaster? |

I wonder if the Chinese government paid money to people whose kids got killed in their big earthquake a few years ago.
Perhaps the families want that amount from NZ? |

When you want behavior that is crass and shameless to the point of being insulting, the Chinese never disappoint.
