Looking to install Win 7 on 2 laptops for a friend. Where would be the cheapest place to purchase 2 licensed copies of Win 7 64 bit Home Premium?

I don't see the issue.

Must be tied to one system and can not be later placed on another computer.

Motherboard died? Too bad, MS says. Just want to upgrade? Buy another license, MS says.

I know many people will change OS before they will change their hardware, but I'm not one of those people. I think noting that it is a system builder license is important.

YMMV

They stopped selling those a long time ago.

It also seems that MS stopped selling standalone win7 product keys (no media) so that method is also out.

I really don't see why he should buy the retail version at $179+ each, when you can get oem disc for ~$99 each. Yes it is not transferable, but since it will be used for 2 laptops that shouldn't be an issue.

I've never had an issue with reactivating license keys due to a hardware failure/replacement.
