I have wondered for years Why is it that we can watch tons of people killed on regular broadcast tv and cable tv but we can not look at nudity ? I think it would be more sensible for children to see nudity then killings. Everyone is at some point in their lives gonna have sex, but only a very, very small proportion of the population is ever gonna witness a killing.

Simplistic answer: It's because nudity can't be faked - full frontal nudity is real nudity. The blood and gunshot wounds in movies and TV shows are not real and everyone know that.

The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.  We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence.  It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." - Samuel Adams, 1771.

So would cartoon porn be ok? What about the T.V. shows like COPS where real people are killed?

Just thought I'd muddy the water.[}:D]

Like I said, that's the "simplistic" answer.

Actually, in Europe they laugh at the US up-tightness at nudity. In the UK, there's the famous "Page 3 Girl", a topless babe every day. Imagine a nude babe in the NYT or WSJ every day.

There's also the network tv stations over there. Almost all nations have a risque` tv show that has nudity. HBO has many of them on their specials.

Nude beaches have been in the South of France for what, 50 years or so? The Japanese have had nude co-ed steam/bath houses for hundreds of years I'm guessing.

It's the Puritian strain in the US that has us against nudity, IMO. Of course it might take all the thrill out of FINALLY getting her clothes off should we be naked a lot more of the time.  >gg<
