Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Cars are 'mechanical Jacobins'

Russel Kirk, heavyweight conservative thinker, derided cars as mechanical Jacobins.

Now, I only sorta know what a Jacobin is, so I have no idea why he abstained from automobiles.  But I'm hoping someone here has an idea.  Especially because he was from Michigan when they still built cars there.
