Should have learned my lesson years ago.
Bought pants several years ago, and I guess they expect me to run around looking like an urban cowboy with tight fitting jeans. Fucking pinch circulation off around my balls and thighs, the damn things need to be painted on. Gave them away. Fast forward to now. Needed an FR rated jacket for work. Ordered a "Black Quilt Lined FR Duck Active Jacket" through our safety store at work. XL was perfect in the torso and gut as far as girth (I'm 5'11" 185 pounds), but the length was as if I had tyrannosaurus rex arms when I reach up, and as if I had a midget torso so that my stomach showed while reaching up. Re-ordered XL Tall, the thing fits like a fucking damned fat suit now, but the arms and torso are the right length. WTF, the XL Tall girth should be the same as the XL girth, just longer. Fucking nope. Figured I'd wash it and dry it to see if it would shrink. Nope, but the shell bled like a mother fucker, and there's wear crease bleaching all over the fucking thing where the wrinkles basically wore off all the color. I even washed it inside out to try to prevent that. Fucking Made In Mexico shit. Thank God work paid for the piece of shit, $255.00 out of their pocket. I guess they figure every American is a fucking out-of-shape fat assed Eric Cartman or something. Fuck American sizing. Fuck Carhartt. |

Weird. I'm 6-1 and 185 and their large tall fits me absolutely perfect. I've put their coats and overalls through a lot and they hold up great.
The dye washed out of my $25 Dickies work pants, but they're surprisingly tough and wind-repellent.
I have several of their shirts and a belt. They've held up great and are very comfortable.
you bought off the rack and expected tailor fit. That's just dumb.
6' 230#, long arms, XXL Tall fits with room for layering in the Arctic coat. Corder wears like iron.
Carhartt jeans have tiny front pockets. I don't particularly care for them.
Anything Carhartt I have ever had has been damn good.
I have insulated overalls that are over fifteen years old and while tight they get it done. The heavy pocket T's I have had for years are only now starting to get tears at the pockets. Maybe your body is shaped oddly |
I've never really had a problem with any of my Carhartt clothing. Bought multiples of the same item too because I've beaten the crap out of them. The only reason I've had to replace them is because of stains, not function.

Mine is a little large on me but is awesome. Has been below zero here past couple nights and no problems. Love mine.

I was looking over some photos and saw a pair of Carhartts I had over five years ago. The seat has some holes and the knees have a few rips from climbing under my cars. Needless to say, they're good quality and fit great. I'm going to keep patching the pants until they're just patches! Then I'll throw on a new pair which is already a few years old, but new with tags.

I am probably being first worldish since it's free, but I've always had fit issues with Carhartt when other shit fits me fine.
Work has been switching over to Carhartt for FR rated clothing, and nothing but problems for me. The Workrite has always been fine. My body type is far from odd, unless an athletic build with very little fat is "odd". Oh well, I guess I should just quit my bitching. |
I got a jacket from Tractor Supply awhile ago that looked and felt much better than a comparable Carhartt. It was also much cheaper.

Maybe your body type is just weird. Carhartt seems to fit great on everyone I know who wears it out here in farm land |

My XLT was enormous. Washed it hot and it fits just right. Lots of room still for layering and cuts wind better than my high dollar hunting jacket.
The best FR clothing is Spentex by a mile but it's even more expensive but it acts like under armour. They don't do much on jackets though.
something about their sizing is off.
I had a pair of overall that fit great. Years later, I order another pair but the thigh areas were too tight. I ordered one size up and it was like they want to transfer the skinny jean look to work overalls or something. |

Carhartt stuff is hit or miss these days.
The cotton t shirts are garbage. Last 3 months max until they are full of holes. Same with most of their other casual wear shirts and pants. I bought their Extreme insulated bibs and coat. Awesome. Warm in even sub zero temps, extremely durable, and much more water repellant than their old cotton bibs and jacket. The Force line of long underwear is great. Sizing is a bit large, but that works better if you wear layers underneath. |

I bought one of their jackets at Tractor Supply for the same reason.. that is looked and felt better. I was pleasantly surprised when the price was less than half the Carhartt. It has held up well and I will consider their brand down the road when I need similar type clothing. |
There's also Berne. Might as well go with a brand that has options for CCW.

You really need to try clothing items on before you buy. I have several pairs of the same size pants and they all fit different. Just out of curiosity I checked the labels in my Carhartt pants a while back. Out of five pairs no two had the same location of manufacture.
They beat the crap out of Dickies though. My wife bought me a couple pairs of Dickie pants a couple years ago. They were fine as long as I didn't need to get my keys or some change out of my pocket. I now know how frustrating it must be to monkeys caught in monkey traps. |

Fuck it, I'll drop the bill on work if they're willing to order from a Berne supplier. |

They work well for me and fit better than most department store brands do after I stuff a gun in my pants. |

I don't not wear it to work in as I wear a suit for that, but have always had some for work around the house and playing outside in the winter. I used to be 6'2" 225 all muscle no fat and it fit great, now 10 years of all work and no working out I'm still 225 but have a gut and it still fits fine just went up a size.

Only way is if someone else has one already, but we just started switching over to Carhartt. You're right about Dickies. We used to order Workrite (which were sized right), and Dickies. It took me a few tries with the Dickies pants sizing before I stopped tossing brand new shit in the trash. Dickies runs 2" longer in the inseam and an inch larger in the waist for me, but I finally got it dialed in. Now this... <img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/smiley_freak.gif border=0 align=middle> Ariat is one of our new jeans suppliers, I think we can still get Dickies. The Mexican contractors that come up during our turnarounds seem to all wear Ariat, I'm guessing it's good quality. |

I was lost when he said he was 5' 11"/ 185 and somehow ordered a XL. Sounded too big to me right off the bat. I'm 5' 11" also and have longer arms than anyone I know, who isn't related to me, and a Lg fits me perfect. Then again, maybe his inseam is 20". |

We were given FR Carhartt jeans for work. What crap. They didn't last as long a cheap Wranglers from WalMart. Their FR long sleeve shirts were OK though.

The Workrite gray long sleeve Tecasafe Plus Knit is fucking awesome, and fits nicely on me. 45% Modacrylic, 35% Lycocell and 20% Aramid so its FR. |
