I just picked this up for my Blazer:

I wouldnt mind trying to hook up the vacuum lines that accuate the butterflys on the air cleaner. SO, i need a diagram for vacuum for an 84 Z28. Or can it just be hooked to any unused port on my carb?

Thanks a bunch.

There should be ducting running from the snorkels to a source of cold, fresh air.

The butterfly valves are designed to be closed when the engine is cold.  One side seals off completely, and the other has a small open hole under it which is connected to a "stove pipe" which drew warm air from around the exhaust manifold.  This allowed the warmer incoming air to better vaporize the fuel and improved cold start emissions.

When warmed up, the butterfly opens and allows fresh, cool air in for maximum charge air density.

I am not sure if they used a thermal operated vacuum switch or if they used a vacuum solenoid controlled by a computer recieving input from a coolant temp switch, but I suspect the former rather than the latter.

The aircleaner is pointless without the ducting that goes to the snorkels.  Otherwise you are just still drawing hot engine compartment air all the time, so you may ass well have an open element air cleaner.

I plan to run duct-ing out to the grill and tieing into the rad. support where the factory air snorkle was.

I just need to know where the vacuum line hooks into. Its a short run, so its either on the carb or the manifold itself.

Don't bother hooking them up...  You'll never notice the difference... until it develops a vacuum leak.

At rest, the snorkel butterflies are sprung open. No need to suck them shut with vac lines unless you plan to connect the air cleaner (underside small duct) to a heat stove on the exhaust manifold.

Where on earth did you find that air cleaner ???  Those things are fetching several hundred dollars on Ebay. I bought one several years ago for my 85 Z28 and it was almost $200 shipped to my door.

Throw it on Ebay...  it should fetch a premium price.

IIRC...  they only used that air cleaner on the '83 & '84 H.O. cars.  I had an '84 H.O. 5-speed car back in the day. It ran pretty good for the old turd she was.
