[green]Two stories from TN.[/green]

A carjacker was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of Southland Mall by a man he tried to rob, police said.

"This is a carjacking gone bad," said Maj. Jerry Lawson with the Memphis Police Department South precinct.

Family members identified the man who shot the robber as Percell Perry, 22.

Police said he had a license to carry the weapon he used in the shooting.

At issue is legislation sponsored by Odom (D-Nashville) to permit cities to "regulate or prohibit the discharge of weapons'' or the use of other weapons within city limits.

The House Local Government subcommittee passed Odom's bill Tuesday despite strenuous opposition from the TWRA and hunters. The bill is scheduled to be heard by the full House State and Local Government Committee next week.

"This goes to safety,'' said Odom, who has been trying to move the bill, or a similar bill, from the House subcommittee for several weeks.

WTF, a "car jacker gone bad", someone needs to tell that stupid cop that a carjacker is already  bad, he just got his ass shot.

Scratch one criminal.  I hope everything turns out okay for the shooter.

If this happened more often, we'd certainly have less street crime.  Either the criminals would be persuaded to pursue less dangerous work, or they'd be put 6 feet under.  Hard to commit a crime from inside that casket.

Don't worry, the lawyers will get ahold of it and somehow the good citizen shooter will face some charge or another and he will have to prove that the proson he shot was a carjacker.

I heard one of the local TV talking heads, refering to Perry, actually ask "why did he need a gun?". Haven't yet heard ANYONE question why the perp was laying in wait "with a gun".

I guess the police guy means it went bad for the car-jacker. If you were a car-jacker you would probably agree.

I think the question of why he needed a gun was answered by the entire incident but you must remember that to many in the media, criminals are misunderstood, society let them down, and apparently they are the only ones with the need to be armed, blah, blah, blah.  The legally armed guy will be probably be prosecuted and then sued by the family of the dead guy.  This is not being pessimistic, just realistic.  The media and other left wing nuts have coddled criminals to the point that we now have the problems we do because we don't punish criminals severely enough.  I think perhaps that also has something to do with the school shootings, the fact that criminal actions seem to be glorified by our media.

no doubt the family will sue, they have probably already got a team of lawyers.
problem is that the shooter will have to get a lawyer to defend himself (at his cost) so if (when)the family dosen't win, he will be stuck with a bunch of fees that the family (carjackers) won't be able to pay.

They have to investigate anyway; that's
the sop; even if cops had to shoot they are supposed to go through an investigation too to explain why he had to shoot. but if they found this guy guilty there's and injustice.

I have subsequently heard on the news that the shooting was determined to be a justifiable homiside by the investigating authorities.
Things are lookin' up.
