Currently I have $5000 worth of guns and (1) $1000 car. Anyone else spend more on guns than cars?

You bet.  I hate owning things that depreciate.  Cars are the #1 money wasters out there.  Buy one new (LOL) and it's worth 30% less the minute you drive it off the lot.  Guns tend to hold their value better, take less maintenance and give more fun for the $.  By a car used, and drive it until the wheels come off. Buy a gun used and keep it forever.

So you are just starting on the guns? Sounds like Imbrolio's collection. [:)]

$5K is about 2 of my pre-ban.  You got a long way to go.

Yeah-- for the mechanically challenged, guns are easier to understand.  NO @#$%ING oxygen sensors to go gunny bag.

BTW, as a voice of moderation, with $5000, you should easily be able to cover the basics!  Just think of the apoplexy Chuckie Schumer must suffer every time he considers that $5000 is a modest investment in the "tools of the Devil."  Wait a minute, he probably doesn't even care-- he's just after the hype...  he he he.

And with all else being equal, it's harder to do double taps with a vehicle.

Ummmm...  I'm guilty!

I have a $400 POS car and tens of thousands in firearms and firearms related toys.

Now, my wife does drive a very nice Camry.

No doubt about that!

Yeah, me too.

I can remember when I was young and my car was an extention of my ego/personality.  Now I look at the car ads in the paper and think God Bless all those people with six or seven hundred a month worth of ego/personality.

Two or three months of car payments will buy me a week in the warm waters off Mexico playing with the fishies.  Or add another fine example of the gunsmith's art to my collection.

You get older, you get wiser.

Yup I spend thousands on my guns, finally let go of my Ranger with the 260,000 miles and got a old Thunderbird, spent all of 500$ on it. As soon as I get my liscense back, Ill drive it somewhere other than to work and back.

Right now I have a brand new truck.  My ten year old one went Tango Uniform.  I'll probably have this same one ten years from now.  As of now my vehicles probably out value my guns. Last year no way.  In a couple of years from now, again no way.  One must keep their perspective. [;)]

I just bought a new car last year, so I could not even come close to spending on guns what I spent on my car.  I am also buying a beatup truck.  My old car was only worth $2k, so I had more money in guns (even if you count my motorcycle).  Most of the guns I want to get cost some big change, so I am gonna have to save up.

Well that all goes without saying...

When you are dead and gone, will your grandson be handing down his grandpa's car to his son?  Guns are heirlooms in the making.  ;)

damn I've never looked at it that way now I'm  starting to think.(bad) I really don't even have a car of my own, but I give up an AR every month to the bank and full coverage ins. just to drive around in a shiny one and call it mine.

Which is why I drive around ina 13 yr old truck, guns are a better investment than real estate.  The serious gun folks and preparedness specialists always drive a POS.  Cars are a necessary evil, and a terrific waste of money.

I would rather drive my old chev p/u with a real V8 (no electrical items) till it drops, and then ebuild it again. Guns can be like life blood someday, the car will drain your life blood. Go guns, $450 + payments a month suck, how many ar's or other items could you buy in a year for that amount each month.

Forget about my guns, my gun cleaning supplies are probably worth more than my truck.

No kidding. I've put it off for years, since 16 when I "could" have bought one, and have only now been forced(by myself) to buy an available '92 Olds Cutlass Station Wagon.

Really.

But at $750(for a car that's worth maybe 3k), I can't say no. I need a car(like you said, paspecops, necessary evil), but I need the rest of my money for important things.

Important like a Tromix .458 SOCOM upper, and the part-by-part super-l/w upper AR with a Hesse Kevlar lower, and AO tritium sights for my USP, and an HK UTL, and more Thermolds, and Mastermolder 20's, and a case of Cor-Bon 9mm, and an Aimpoint M2Comp, and an IMI Tavor Bullpup,(and MORE thermolds for that) and-and-and...

I'd be able to save up for exactly NONE of these things I want to invest in, if I had a better car, and the payments that go with it. Easy choice, n'cest pas? My collection is easily worth more than the car.

Between my 67 Mustang GT fastback, my 460 powered 79 Mercury Capri, and my 98 F-150 supercab 4X4, about a $55,000 dollar investment, gun collection hovering around $8-10,000, kind of a toss up. I always said I should have picked less expensive hobbies like bird watching, UFO hunting ect! Good thing I hate beanie babies!

I have a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder I bought as a lease return for $17K just b4 Xmas 1995. You have no idea how desperate dealers are with 2 weeks until Santa comes! I figure it is good for another 5 years, only has 74K miles. Then my 96 Suzuki RF900 sportbike I bought as a 2 year old, for $5K.

Now I only have about $3K in guns, but I am in Kalifornia, so I can't buy any more pretty black things. Added a Sig 229 in October, and am now thinking of an M1A Scout.

Oh yeah, and bought a house in March 99 that has appreciated 50%. ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THE BAY AREA! (unless you are looking to buy or are renting, then you are screwed, sorry)

That is a good point Preserve....  I wish I was the guy who inherits all my gun/knife/optics related stuff. Maybe I should have kids so that somebody will get all this gear when I die.  I really don't worry or care about dying, but I DO worry who will get my guns!!

Regarding cars, just a few weeks ago, I was abount to drop 20k on a new car....until..... i saw the msnbc special on .50 cal rifles..... i'm sorry, but the sales tax + first year depreciation on the 20k car is more than the cost of an Armalite AR-50 .50 BMG rifle......so....instead of the new car....i got an ar-50. I just need to get ammo and optics for it. I'm thinking about the leupold 6.5x20x50 vari x iii 30mm LR with mill dots, but havent made up my mind.

In America, nobody really gives a sh*t what you drive. And if they do, then they are not your friends in the first place.  Buy expensive guns...not expensive cars !!! .....unless you have tons of cash and can affort a new 911 turbo....then go for it.

I know idiots who spend huge amounts of money on expensive cars, and give me sh*t because of my cheap car, but who have to work twice as much as I do to pay for it.....all while their expensive car sits in the parking lot of their work. Ego is expensive.
