Just opened an unknown undated can of smoked oysters. Seem to be okay, I'll eat them all just to make sure.

Do these things expire? Or when the can starts to rust should you throw them away.....

I think that all of the oysters expired when they were canned! Being canned alive is just too cruel!

give em' a thump with your middle finger . . . if they don't move (much) then they should be ok

Nonesense!

How do you think they've kept the Rolling Stones alive this long?

Expiring from smoke inhalation isn't much of a bargain either.

By the way, Still kicking.

For my next meal I think I'll try "A Chicken in a Can" An entire poultry delight stuffed in a 2 quart steel can. Again, no expiration date.....its chicken, what could happen!?

They are packed in oil. As long as thecan isn't bulged out it should be good to go.
On the other hand I don't eat smoked oysters anymore. I also don't eat them any less.

Hope you enjoyed them. After Katrina, I suspect they will become harder to find and pricier.

They are mostly shipped in from China and Korea.

Though theres no expiration date often cans will have a code that you can check on the producers webiste and find out the date of expiration or manufacture. I know this works with big companies but if as noted your oysters were from China your probably on your own.

If you even have to ask this then you should probably be removed from the gene pool...

Don't use yourself as an experiment to find out.

Can opener: $3

Can of smoked oysters packaged God knows when: $3

6 liter garbage can: $15

Avoiding food poising and/or death instead of trying to save $3 on canned oysters: Priceless

I would never spend 3 dollars on a can of oysters!
