I posted this under the "what rifle should I get" thread but thought it deserved it's own thread. There are a whole list of full auto machine under section lV in the "Firearms, Curios or Relics List" book that you can buy without going thru a Class lll dealer. They are still NFA weapons and as such you still must pay the $200 tax and fill out a form 4 but once you're approved the gun can be shipped to your door. Just a couple of the guns listed include the Thompson, PPSH-41, S&W M-76 pre 1975 and a butt load of others. Now it that sweet or what?

And the cheapest thing you will find is a Sten for over $2000. Thompsons go for at least $8500 and usually much higher.

The last Thompson that I've seen was at a gun show in Knoxville about 4 yrs. ago. The guy was asking $1600 for it, of course you'll still have to add another $200 for the tax stamp. I just thought it was neat that if you were a C&R lic. holder you could get some very cool stuff without having to kiss a Class lll dealers butt. They've even got M-1919's and M2's on the list. There are even cannons and howitzers on the list. The more I read the more stuff I want to get.

1600?? You mean 16,000??? As for cannons/howitzers/etc... that stuff is a separate part of the NFA, of course.... Technically, you CAN get a modern towed-gun, if you can find one for sale and get a signoff... Of course, ammo would have a $200/round tax & sign-off too...

I guess even if you handload the ammo it'd cost a bunch. Still, it would be kind of cool to have a 105mm in the garage.

Even at $1600 I couldn't afford it so I didn't even really look at it. Now how about we all chip in and get a 105mm Howitzer, we can put it on my C&R.

There are also some C&R M16's. You'll find that C&R's bring a premium over standard transferables. But let's face it any MG costs big $$. crappy M11's are going for over $2000, and UZI's are $4500 and Colt M-16 varients are well over $10,000. Don't know what your beef is with C3 dealers though, the ones that I know let you shoot their $10k guns for free. They're like crack dealers, they let you rip a few mags to get you addicted. So big deal, they charge $100 to store your inbound MG then put up with you for 6 months calling and nagging them, answering all their questions, and stopping by to fondle their MG while waiting on the F4 to clear. Geesh noob.

I don't have a "beef" with Class lll dealers, I just thought it was cool that a citizen with a C&R lic. could order this stuff and have it sent to his door. Alot of people think that a type 03 will only get you bolt actions and stuff like that but you can get some very cool guns with an 03 as well. By the by, back to the thread, looks like the SKS will be the gun I'll end up getting unless I can find a nice M1 Garand at the Knoxville gun show this weekend. Talk to ya'll later.

Here's a list of NFA C&R guns. The down side to C&R MG's is that for the most part they are very collectible (read expensive). http://www.atf.gov/firearms/curios/sec4.htm

The item that intrigues me on the C&R list were the anti-tank rifles. Nothing like having a 20mm semi-auto Finnish rifle. I have seen these rifles at MG shoots but no one seems to rent them. I imagine the ammo price would be outrageous.
