Can you blind insects, spiders, etc with a laser pointer?

I have a green laser pointer and on occasion I've tried to blind the occasional roach or spider with it. However I have no idea if I'm having any effect.

One bug I lit up started running away but I'm not sure if it was because he was blind or just didnt like light?

Any ideas?

I once aimed a red laser very close to a salamander on a wall and
it started to follow it thinking it was a very tasty glowing bug.

Salamanders are dumb.

What's the output of your laser? I have one that's 85mW from www.wickedlasers.com. I pretty sure you can kill them if your close enough.

My first reaction is to say "you have way too much time on your hands" but then again, now I want to try it too. I don't have green laser like you do Mr. Fancypants, just a half-assed $5.00 to taunt my cats with. Nevertheless, I wanna try blinding some bugs.

Those things are scary, never thought I'd see a laser pointer pop a baloon, or light a match, or cut through electrical tape.

Most insects really dont use their eyes as much as their other senses. The low power lasers probably wont do much.

Dunno about insects, but one of the best pranks ever is to get your friend's cat into a frenzy chasing the laser pointer dot, and then slinging the dot up on to your friend's chest. Instant laser-guided cat missile attack!
