If the terrorists start targeting American cities will we be able to stop them
or will it become a way of life for us like it is in Israel, and how will we change?
Link Posted: 7/23/2005 1:17:25 AM EDT
If they want to make it our way of life, it will be.
Link Posted: 7/23/2005 1:23:13 AM EDT
They have started the "random" searches in DC and there has not yet been a suicide bomber
(not saying that is a bad thing, just different)

I keep hearing "experts" that say that profiling is a waste of time, but they offer no reasoning just their
"statement of fact", personally I think that searching little old white ladies is foolish to the point of being "retarded"
Link Posted: 7/23/2005 1:26:46 AM EDT
Yet again, Lumpy's right. Scumbags simply don't subscribe to any "code of honor" (never have) and terrorism is older than dirt. Only reasonable response is to hunt them down and exterminate them. Yep - that sucks. Another dirty job but somebody has to do it.

Thanks y'all...

And they are wrong. They refuse to name what the enemy in this fight really is because it wouldn't be PC, and would be labelled more hateful than any act of terrorism perpetrated against the American people.

Welcome to the times we live in.

They had a lady on Fox about Israel just now saying that when there is a high alert
you(they)try to not take buses or go to coffee shops
and if you must go to a coffee shops you go to ones with a security guard checking bags at the door
and you don't sit near the front of the shop

PC...............

Cuz the coffee-shop security guard is going to save you

We can will if we stop with all the PC nonsense once and for all.

I am wondering about the changes that will come about
here is one that came about in London, councilors that ride with you on the tube if you are scared

Londoners look to each other in fear
FERGUS SHEPPARD
thescotsman.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1669662005
LONDON commuters are to be offered "travel buddies" to help them overcome their fear of using public transport following the recent terrorist attacks, it emerged last night.

With the numbers using bus and particularly Underground services significantly down since the 7 July attacks, the city is desperate to reassure travellers and tourists that the system remains safe to use.

Although Londoners largely remained defiant in the face of the first bombings, the second attacks have left nerves frayed and many people worried that a sustained campaign of terrorism is just beginning.

The tourism industry warned yesterday that at least £300million in overseas tourism revenue would be lost following the attacks.

In the City, shares in travel firms and airlines slipped, while shops in the centre of the city were much quieter than usual.

Steven Dowd, chief executive of UKinbound, which represents more than 300 companies involved in bringing visitors to Britain, said the effects of Thursday's incidents could be severe: "One attack followed by a recovery is one thing, a second attack - all bets are off."

The creation of "travel buddies" is one attempt to restore confidence in London's public transport system.

The Underground is used by three million people every day, while London's buses carry six million passengers daily.

Both are heavily used by tourists as well as regular passengers.

While Mayor Ken Livingstone, a regular Underground commuter, has urged the capital's commuters to keep using the Tube, there is no question that the bomb attacks and yesterday's shooting at Stockwell Underground station have come as a jolt to even the most stoic of commuters.

The "travel buddy" system, being offered by the Family Assistance Centre, involves a social worker travelling with the affected person for part of their commuter trip to build up confidence, and is based on a similar scheme run by Victim Support for those affected by crime travelling to court cases. However, organisers say the service is meant for those suffering serious psychological reactions rather than general nerves.

The scheme is is staffed by 40 people from agencies, including Victim Support, Westminster Council, the NHS, the Metropolitan Police, Cruse Bereavement and Transport for London.

The London centre, based on a similar organisation set up in New York after the 11 September attacks, has so far taken 550 helpline calls and seen 246 people, including the families of those killed or injured in the 7 July attacks.

Lorraine Sherr, a professor of clinical health and psychology at University College, London, said she did not believe most Londoners would suffer lasting psychological issues from the attacks. The expert on trauma said: "If you look to New York, where people supported each other, you open up a side of people which is much more caring. Human beings have an enormous capacity to cope, and it will take more than this to bring London to its knees."

One sign of that resolve was demonstrated by Mark Maybanks, the driver of the number 26 Hackney bus targeted in Thursday's attacks. He vowed to return to work, declaring: "Whatever they do, we are going to be back driving our buses. They are not going to beat us."

However, Bob Crow, the head of RMT, the railworkers' union, warned that Tube drivers were suffering stress and confirmed that some had refused to operate trains after incidents at Warren Street, Oval and Shepherd's Bush stations.

Meanwhile, there were early signs yesterday that the possibility of a sustained terrorist campaign in the capital would hit tourism and consumer confidence. An emergency meeting of Britain's tourism and travel companies warned that the 7 July bombings would wipe £300million off Britain's earnings from foreign tourism this year, with yesterday's attempted attacks certain to increase that.

Elliott Frisby, a spokesman for the Tourism Industry Emergency Response group, said: "London is a gateway to the UK, so there are likely to be repercussions for Scotland."

The British Hospitality Association, representing 40,000 hotels and restaurants, said there had been no significant drop in hotel bookings in London, though attendances at museums had fallen.

Hilton International, which has 16 hotels in London, also said it had not seen an increase in cancellations following this week's attacks.

There were signs that those who did not have to travel into London for work yesterday chose to stay away.

Research company SPSL, which provides statistics on shoppers for the retail trade, said the number of people travelling into the city centre dropped by over a quarter on Thursday, compared to the same time a year ago.

The John Lewis group said its Oxford Street and Sloane Square stores were "quiet".

However, London's airports, major airlines and train companies said they were expecting to do business as normal.

A Heathrow spokesman said: "For the time being, people have made travel plans and are sticking to them."

The airport was expecting 900,000 passengers this weekend.

EasyJet said that flight bookings to London appeared "fairly normal".

Train operators said bookings for journeys into London were "stable".

SECURITY ROW

A FAILURE to impose random checks on London passengers and beef up security at Underground stations drew criticism from transport unions yesterday, who urged workers to stay away from work if they felt unsafe.

In contrast, just hours after Thursday's failed suicide bombing attempt in London, commuters on New York's subway were subjected to random checks, and barred entry if they refused.

Ken Livingstone, London's mayor, held crisis talks with Aslef, the train drivers' union, and the Rail and Maritime Workers union, but officials expressed their "extreme disappointment" at the failure to secure agreement for "beefed up" security.

Unions had called for the reinstatement of rail guards on all Tubes trains.

Mr Livingstone said random stop-and-searches had begun and he described the meeting as productive. He had earlier ruled out airport-style security at Tube stations.

Michael Bloomberg, the New York mayor, said subway checks would go on indefinitely: "Clearly we'll do it for a little while. It is partially designed to make people feel comfortable ... and keep the potential threat away."

+1. You can't win a war against a religious ideology. You are not fighting a standing army, nor a foe that is tangible and easily identifiable. As long as their abomination of a religion and their clerics continues to preach that the murder of innocents is acceptable in order to achieve peace, they will continue to succeed in recruiting for their fanatical cause......Sadly, that's just the way it is..

One thing I hope we can avoid that Israel didn't bother with - doing it the American way.

Terrorists are just bugs and just like bugs, stomping them feels good but works too slow for an infestation. Use bug spray instead. Overseas, our exterminators wear camouflaged uniforms. Here at home, our exterminators wear blue.

I don't want to see a day we need to resort to camouflaged uniforms here at home so the right way to go is for us all to cooperate and support those blue uniforms too. Suck it up and tolerate the rotten restrictions terrorism places upon us all. Fight back by supporting what's required for now - it's temporary unless WE let it become permanent. We can go back to normal after the bugs are stomped, sprayed, or otherwise destroyed by whatever means necessary.

ETA: ...and have you ever thought about visiting London? It's a great city and now is a great time to visit. In fact, it would be neat to flood London with US of A tourists. It's fun to spit in terrorism's eye.

Winning the War Against Terrorists is no different.
It is just a matter executing them and their supporters.

Honestly its gonna get a whole lot worse. I say in 10yrs we wil be totally living under the gun and have a strong militarized presence everywhere possible. They will succeed in that area.
Can we win now ? Sure but we are not allowed to. Thats the problem. The world is too PC and just like how, history ALWAYS repeats itself. Nothing will be done (correctly) until its nearly too late and everyone will be bitchin because we didnt do something sooner.

Sad but true and I dont see why the World will act any different than it has for tens of thousands of years.

Its gonna get real bad.

We will lose some freedoms and NEVER gain them back after all is said and done. I would not be surprised it it continually slide downhill for the next 2 decades. We will live in a very restrictive lifestyles (well more than an American should have to endure anyway). Checkpoints and ID checks will be so commonplace it will be second nature (and champined my many , here as well).

Yeah I am a pessimist. World history is all we need to look to to see where we are headed. Will we win? Yes in the end after expending millions of times the effort we could do it in now.

You can swat at the bugs until the cows come home. Hard to take care of yourself when doing that. The nest has to be taken out. We cant.

This is a religious war and needs to reform from witin itself. If that dont happen, it will never end.

The idea that all wars must be "won" is false. Some wars are fought simply because NOT fighting them would lead to far worse consequences.

For example, South Korea's 48 million inhabitants (along with most of the rest of non-communist Asia) couldn't care less that we never "won" the Korean war...

I for one refuse to concede that a perpetual state of Islamic terror is inevitable.

God... have we become so soft as a people that many of us are willing to accept a "tolerable" level of terrorist violence because we can't stomach the thought of what is required to truly eradicate the threat?

The WOT is a winnable war. We have the tools. We know the targets. What we don't have (yet?) are the balls to call this struggle what it really is & act accordingly.

Sadly, as long as there is breath in one Muslim extremist's body, terrorism will remain possible. The only way to stop it is to completely wipe them all out. But that isn't possible either.

So what it all boils down to is a game of patience. One side will have to wait out the other until they get tired and give up the fight. This may go on for hundreds of years.

I agree. Until the entire World publicly decries the evil they do, it will never reform.

no story about suicide bombers is complete without this

english.people.com.cn/200202/20/eng20020220_90631.shtml

Basically, a suicide bomber tries to get on a bus in Israel, the driver thinks, "Hey, its odd to see a Pali wearing a heavy winter coat and sweating his balls off in 100 degree temperature...I'm gonna throw his ass off...

The article says that the bomber "then detonated his explosives"

The version I heard at the time said he tried to run away and detonated a safe distance away by himself.

Either way, there were zero casualties (well, except for the shaheed)

Terrism will never be completely stopped. There has always been terroism and there will continue to be. We can prevent future attacks and hunt them down to lower the number of attacks on us. So far it looks like we are doing a decent job. I dont know if its enough though they seem to wait a long time till no one expects anything.

Many have the sack, but it does not matter as most of America will have to wait until its nearly too late to do anything. Do not underestimate the slack in people. 9/11 was bad but evidently not bad enough for America to be united in destroying the enemy. Its gonna take something real nasty got change the PC atmosphere and do what needs to be done.

I think it will take not only one but half a dozen nukes going off before people actually unite against the enemy.

Americans will not accept incessant attacks similar to what occurs in Israel.

Lets face it. Americans enjoy soft luxury and the comfort of good living. In the end, we have a good life and the mass is willing to protect it. When you have something to loose it drives you to protect it.

When soccer moms see their children butchered a Beslan style attack in small town USA; these women will be the first to stab a terrorist's eyes out with a broken cell phone.

The politics will change.

Will they? Or will they simply blame Bush and say it was the war in Iraq that caused it? Seems the libs prefer to blame Bush, since he is a less threatening target. Perhaps they are too scared to admit what the rest of us knows....the world is a fucked up and evil place at the moment and it ain't getting any better.

Police also will start randomly searching passengers' bags on suburban commuter trains in New Jersey as of Monday.

The subway searches, announced on Thursday, prompted criticism from the New York Civil Liberties Union that it could invite the targeting of certain people for racial, ethnic or religious reasons.

Police promised there would be no racial profiling, and Bloomberg too said the practice would not be allowed.

"If you think everybody with blue eyes is a terrorist, you can't just stop everybody with blue eyes," the mayor said.

There are many good points and ideas made by people much smarter than I.
About the only thing I'd care to add is to win the war on terror we must be willing to get as 'dirty' as they are, by that I mean take off the 'kid gloves' lose the PC mind set and start killing them where they live.(In my world 'profiling' is a good thing!!)

If there is a known Imam who preaches 'death to America bullshit' send out a kill squad like the Israeli Mossad and kill him and his family in their beds, WHERE EVER THAT MAY BE!!!

Then do the same to his replacement if he teaches the same bullshit, If you can identify a group of young impressionable (stupid) Muslims who happen to 'look up to' these assholes send them a similar message, kill them and everything they love, eventually they will see it isn't worth risking.

If you happen to have corrupt officials and national leaders who quietly condone the behaviour of radicals opperating from within their country, then they too are fair game.(I can think of several Saudi Princes who qualify right now!!!)

The bottom line is we need to get filthy, dirty, mad dog crazy and do unto them before they all do unto us. And if in the process some Middle Eastern Nation declares an all out war against us, even better,it just became time to 'exercise' the 'Nuclear Option'!!!!

So, you're an American 'Liberal, Hippy basturd' and can't wrap your head around the new policy and decide you must 'talk shit' and stir up dissention within our own borders, well guess what?? YOU just became a 'traitor' and get to spend some time making a fine wife for 'Bubba' back at the 'pound me in the ass Hotel'!!!

See kids, times are a changin' and we must change too, and 'raise or lower' our standards of behaviour to meet the new challenges that face us; What ever or Where ever that may be!!!!!...

Gain some perspective & grow a sack America!

However are you not fighting a known enemy during all of these fights?

And Nazism is still around simply not in power.

Also terrorism will always be as long as people hate. Just always has been.

As long as there is one person alive who has the desire and motivation to inflict harm on another, terrorism of any form will be around.

But we sure as shit can clamp down hard on them.

ETA:

Now that I read the whole thread, I see oly said the same thing.

While we're discussing this, there are little children attending Wahabi Islamic schools in Saudi Arabia that aren't exactly sure where America is, but they sure as heck are being taught to hate America. These kids are facing years of indoctrination by well funded, rabid Western-hating clerics, that will prepare them to carry out the plans of those clerics. We'll be in this WOT for a very long time.

I also believe that once the terrorists already living here begin to target run of the mill grocery stores, malls, and sporting events for their bombings, we will begin to acquire an "Israel like" aspect to our way of life. With PC political leaders like that clown Bloomberg, I don't see how it can be avoided.

Sadly true…

God... have we become so soft as a people that many of us are willing to accept a "tolerable" level of terrorist violence because we can't stomach the thought of what is required to truly eradicate the threat?

The WOT is a winnable war. We have the tools. We know the targets. What we don't have (yet?) are the balls to call this struggle what it really is & act accordingly.

On friday mr bloomberg made sure everybody knew that any profiling would NOT be allowed..........

"I think if we've learned anything, it's that you can't predict what a terrorist looks like. Terrorists come in all sizes and forms," he said.

(Looks like "we" have NOT learned anything)

As long as bogus pseudo-values like 'diversity' and 'tolerance' rule our culture, we won't make any lasting progress in the WOT.

Until we make it clear to the Arabic Muslim population that we won't allow them to live in our communities as long as they harbor this shit, it will go on and on and on.

if we're going to have to live like Isreal does, then we need to adopt Isreali tactics. Checkpoints on the borders, tank raids into Muslim extremists strongholds, hell fire missiles on ROP terrorist leaders. I also support the citizenry carrying full auto Uzi's for homeland security, specifically me That congressman had it right, attack America, blow up Mecca. Bring the noize!

Yeah , it's cool to say tough guy things like how we should hunt them down or kill them in their beds , blah , blah . How many people here believe that the U.S. is going to REALLY get serious
about dealing with this shit ? My God , we can't even use profiling as a method of identifying potential
terrorists because we might offend someone . Think about that for a minute . What's their answer ?
Random searches of bags ? Oh yeah , I feel safe now . But politically , it was a " safe" response .

As long as the liberal media , the liberal special interest groups and liberal judges steer our society to the left , NOTHING WILL CHANGE . There is NO ONE with the balls to fix this shit so we better look out for our own damn self and that of our family .

BTW - I'm not " accepting " anything except reality . Damn shame isn't it ?

ChrisLe commented: +1.

We must not be afraid to publicly denounce the "abomination of a religion and their clerics" that is causing this problem. Further, we must publicly denounce those PC politicians and gov drones who can't figure out that it is not the 8 year old with a GI Joe in his hand, or an elderly lady that is the problem, and if they feel up ("pat down") our daughters or wifes, we kick their asses. We need to get these liberal PC idiots realigned.
