Can someone tell me the difference between Ativan and Xanax?  My doctor subscribed to me some Ativan for flying anxiety.  However everything I have read says to use Xanax.  So whats the difference.

I just want to know which one is better for teating anxiety.

Xanax is faster acting but doesn't last as long.

Ativan takes longer to work but lasts longer.

Both are used as anxiolytics (relieve anxiety).

Due to its shorter, faster acting properties, xanax is even more addictive than ativan.
