Hey Guys, I need some help here!  Found termites swarming near my house and found some inside.  I don't think they are in the walls yet, just swarming for now.  I don't have the $1200 that the pest control people want to treat my home, so can someone suggest a poison that I can buy at lowes, homedepot that can do the job.  Thanks for the help in advance.

Find the $1200

You don't want them to cause any damage.

That sounds high though, shop around for a different company.

If you just won't go with a pro, all the advice I can give is DO NOT USE ANYTHING MADE BY ORTHO. I've used a ton of their products and none of them have worked AT ALL. I mean they did nothing, period.

I called two places, both were in the $1200 to $1300 range.  I just don't have it, short of selling off a gun or two (Which I won't Do)  Both places said that when termites swarm, they are looking for another place to start a colony, and aren't currently infesting the house.  I figure I can treat the outside and inside really well and hopefully it will take care of them little SOB's.

OP is in Texas.

Still on the market in Mexico?

Could you just have them put down the Sentricon system? I think we're paying around $90 x 4 per year (don't quote me on that).

Here's a source for Termidor. From what I read it's a new colony control that's commercially used.

OK, found out more info......First thanks for all the help and the website suggestion, I have some Termidor coming and should be here in a few days........Wayward_Texan, you are right......you are paying for a warranty.  I brought a sample of the termites I found to three pest control companies, all three told me a different story....one said they were Fermosa, one said sub-terrainian, and one said drywood termites......and all wanted to charge that huge fee for just a outside treatment.  I finally was told by a fouth company that they are fermosa termites and the ones in my house are swarmers and if I only have a few then most likely I don't have an full blown infestation, they just come in through crevaces searching for new places to build colonies.

Anyway, thanks again and in 2-3 business days there won't be a feakin knat or housefly alive within 500' of the house!!!

From what I found, swarmers come out of the ground and are subterranean, at least those are the ones that came out of a floating slab crack in my garage.  They drop their wings and leave a chemical trail into the ground for the blind subterraneans to make tubes and attack.  Many barrier methods fail and sentricon is not all that great.  Apparently the Termidor fucks up the termites central nervous system and they carry the chem back to the nest and fuck up the whole family.  It isn't an immediate kill, but hopefully it takes care of the problem.  It did in my case.
