My old one finally crapped out and started shutting down randomly. Luckily was able to retrieve all of my important documents.

So can anyone recommend a decent computer that isn't crazy expensive? I basically need it for the internet, world/excel/office type stuff. I used to game occasionally but not anymore. How much should I look at spending?

I bought 3 of the Dell 15R's - they work well for our family.

My needs are similar to yours.  Wanted a 13" widescreen to make plane travel for work easier.  Switched from being a serial Dell buyer to Lenovo on the advice of a tech buddy.  Been happy with mine.  They have sales all the time as well.

Maybe Toshiba or Asus. I have an Asus but it took a shit on me last month. I ended up sending it back to the factory for repairs and they've had it for about 3 weeks now. Maybe they're dragging their feet because it's close to the 2 year warranty expiration? Also all of their CS is outsourced to India, ask me how i know.

Typical.

Anyway, just trying to be helpful. Enjoy the Windows experience.
