The news said they're bringing back guns *yesterday* to improve their sales.

Is ammo cheaper there? What kinds of guns do they have? Are shotguns cheaper there, or should I be sticking with Scottsdale gun club which is right down the street from wall mart. I really hate wall mart, but I do like a good price and I really need a shotgun. Thanks, and if you want to recommend me a good shotgun for home defense, that would be outstanding.

PS Finally, after 12 years of marriage, my wife has agreed to buy her own handgun. Need recommendations. She's asian, small hands, but very, VERY mean.

And if this is a dupe thread, please point me in the right direction.

Walmart will have very good prices on guns generally, and will have models only available to them, such as a slight more stripped down model than normally available.  They are good guns, made by the same people, just produced to be set at a lower price point.  Buy them with confidence.

doubt you will see and EBR's but maybe, mostly fudd guns and .22's and base model stuff and some shotguns , some 22 pistols and other cal revolvers but doubtful you will see any autopistols above .22

Day to day prices, walmart is the cheapest ammo I have found, even online.  Sometimes people will run sales and beat their prices, but normaly walmart runs the cheapest.

They have a catalog behind the counter, and can order most rifles or shotugns if they do not have one.

Thanks guys, as always YOU are awesome!

If you're looking for an AR or a pistol, then you won't find it there.  Mini-14s and 30s are as close as you get.

If you're looking for an inexpensive .22 rifle for your kid's Christmas present, then it's a great place to shop.

If I'm not ordering online and need some cheap 9mm I will always hit up a Wal-Mart.

The brands are ok, but seem a little overpriced compared to internet vendors, cheaper than local gun shops. Example: My local walmart has a Reminton 700 ADL for about $600. It's been there forever. It has the lmainated stock and iron sights, which I like, but when I compared to online, it was about $100 higher.

Not bad, but not a steal either. If you must buy locally and don't want evil black guns, they are OK.

I don't like to buy from them because anymore because last time I bought a .22 from WalMart it took an hour to get out of there. Seems like they entered stuff in three different books, had to call managers, etc. BIG pain in the ass, even with a CHL. Most gun shops I am out in 15 minutes.

Glad to see the Guns coming back. Sears, JC Penney would do well to do so, they need the store traffic these days.

Beretta makes a 390 shotgun especially for Wal-Mart that is a good buy and you can't find new anywhere else.

This. None of the Wally Worlds in my area ever stopped selling guns. Have never seen a handgun of any kind. Bunch of rifles/shotguns but no magazine fed rifles besides rimfire.

The ones buy me love to do a "$1 above cost sale". I guess if they can get you to buy the rifle they up the chances of you buying ammo and accessories there.

Bought a stainless 10/22 for around $190 just a year ago.

I don't believe you are going to see handguns for sale at any WM.  They caved to the Anti's a long time ago w/r/t the selling of evil handguns.  I don't see them bringing them back.

Picked up a 10/22 there recently.

Took forever to get the paperwork done, even though it is all done on a computer there. Like the poster above said, they had to get a manager to unlock the storage cage, then later had to call another manager to double check stuff and walk the gun to the front door after I paid. Both manager calls had ~10min waits attached to them.

On the plus side the 3 local fun shops I visited first did not have a standard 10/22 carbine in stock. And I got it for a little less than the average price I was seeing on the interwebs. They had a decent selection of 22s and hunting rifles and shotguns and a good amount of each in inventory. They also have a pretty decent selection of ammo.

The brand new Super Walmart a few miles away (swanky part of town) that just opened last month does not have a gun display.  My local regular Walmart doesn't have them either, I have to drive to the Super Walmart in the shitty part of town to get guns.

Price wise, Wally-Mart here is equal or slightly higher than the local specialty sporting good shops.

They carry major brands like Ruger, Savage, Remington, Rossi, Mossberg, etc.

Next time you're at the sporting goods counter ask to see the "Special Order Book". Its a big catalog of all the guns they can get.

ETA:  Wall-Mart's catalog on-line  -  Wal-Mart gun catalog

I don't think that's quite true - you can also ask for their catalog and I believe they can order just about anything from major manufacturers. I ordered a Savage MkII youth from them for my nieces and nephews thru walmart.

ETA - see above. I was mistaken - only long guns, not pistols

Here's the walmart online gun porn.

Was posted in the other walmart gun thread yesterday so I bookmarked it.    I did call about a gun in there and wasn't impressed with the price.  $829 for a Marlin 1895SBL.  Was hoping for far far less.

Ocassionaly they'll get a different model exclusive to wal-mart just like any other big distributor like Lipsey's or whatever. It's not like the rumor that wal-mart guns are made cheaper but sometimes they'll get a model with a different stock/finish/barrel length or something like that.

Around here it's a lot like Academy, if they have it it's usually cheaper than anywhere else locally.

Our walmart cleared out it's gun safe about 15 years ago and I found out from a friend who worked there. I knew they had a book of guns you could order but they had a ton of guns in the back they never put on display. Not sure if they still do that.

I wound up buying 15 Ruger Model 77's for less than $300 each when they cleared out. They had some other guns you wouldn't expect. Some nice weatherby's. I bought a MK V for about 1/2 price. They also had a full stock Steyr Mannlicher in .308 that was priced at around $1800 etc...
