You can ship it but if its a handgun it'll probably be cheaper for a dealer to ship it USPS priority vs. you shipping it next day air.

Ok, I think I have this figured out.

I can directly ship a gun to anyone in my own state (as long as I believe they are not prohibited)

I have to ship to a FFL if the buyer is out of state (and that FFL is ok with it)

yes but you would be better off to do a ftf if you can.  shipping is expensive.

I find it safer and cheaper to drop off any firearm Im shipping to my FFL and let them deal with it. It cost me $40bux. worth the drive for them to box it up and take to shipping center.

Ftf limits your market area. Make the buyer pay for shipping (or build it into your price).

Our little shop won't accept a firearm sent in by an individual.  We used to but no matter how much we tried to get the sellers to give us their full names and addresses, it just did not happen.  We got tired of trying to chase them down to get a middle name, street address or whatever.

Correct. Most FFLs will want a copy of your driver's license, or at least your full name and address.

The FFL is responsible for logging the firearm in from the party that shipped it, so many of them do not like dealing with individuals who often refuse to provide an ID with the shipment.
