The young teenage nieces and nephews are all coming for a visit.
I am told they dig Anime. Help me be the cool uncle and tell me which ones to rent? It's gonna be real cold and nasty so we're all gonna be stuck in the house all day. |

Elfen lied
Vampire hunter Ninja scroll Akira Attack on titan Basilisk |
|
|
As far as actual movies, Sword of the Stranger is pretty good.
|
|
I am a sucker for the Cowboy Bebop series.
OP, you might even like it, it's pretty good. |
|
|
Though you might have to check the ratings for whatever age group they are if they are young.
Trigun Ghost in the Shell: movies or series Appleseed My roomates are watching the Legend of Korra, not sure if its good or not. The Hellboy animated movies were pretty good to. |
|
Hellsing (vampires and violence)
Hellsing Ultimate (vampires and violence, some sexual situations, but not actual sex and I think no nudity.) Sword ART Online (Violence) Cowboy Beebop is a good one, but it is older and is regularly on Cartoon Networks Toonami block so they might have seen it already. (violence and drug use) High School of the Dead (Anime and zombies violent, and fan boy fodder, but no nudity or sex) Angel Beats (violence) I would avoid Ninja Scroll it's good, but if I remember right there is at least one scene of pretty hard core sex. Eta: Trigun is another good one as the poster above said, and shouldn't be a problem for that age range. Eta2: Vampire Hunter D and it's sequel are both good. (vampires violence and monsters) |

K-on! The Movie.
Black Rock Shooter. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. |
|
Another one that is good for the younger kids OP but still fun to watch for everyone is Metropolis.
Not the same style as a lot of anime, but still pretty neat. Memories is good too for varying age groups. The middle story Cannon Fodder is one seamless panning shot, it is really well done. |

Princess Mononoke is one of my top 10 favorite movies, anime or otherwise, and it would probably appeal to both boys and girls.
Spirited Away is excellent, but it might be too slow for a younger audience. |

Also Gundam 0083, Gundam 8th MS Team, ect are great mecha/giant robot titles. Bubblegum Crisis 2032 is good, but hard to find. As is Black Magic M66. Ninja scroll is damn good, but has some graphic sexual situations. The action is fantastic, though. Check out the new Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell 2:Innocence features breathtaking animation. All the Ghost in the Shell features are good, really. ETA my daughter is 11 Ave LOVES Spirited Away. (And Mononoke) Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Howl's Moving Castle is good, too. So is The Secret World of Arietty.
Anything by Studio Ghibli is damn good, even thought they'll say "Disney" all over them. Disney only distributes these films in America. They don't produce them or alter then in any way. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

If you don't want to be bored and you want them to think you're cool get these:
Ninja scroll Vampire hunter d or vampire hunter d:bloodlust I think it's called Princess mononoke |

Me & my kids pretty much love anything by Hayao Miyazaki.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Castle in the Sky My Neighbor Totoro Kiki's Delivery Service Porco Rosso Princess Mononoke Spirited Away Howl's Moving Castle The Secret World of Arriety We can't wait to see The Wind Rises. |

Ninja Scroll
M.D. Geist Vampire Hunter D Fist of the North Star eta: High School of the Dead |

No love for Grave of the Fireflies?
Great film, but very depressing. Probably not a good idea for the OP. Anyone seen The Children who Chase Lost Voices yet? I'm pretty interested in seeing that and Voices of a Distant Star. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Definitely not Elfen Lied then. That show is pretty intense and lots of mature themes. Even Ninja Scroll has a chick with a snake in her cooch.
If you're interested in movies check out Hayao Miyazaki's work. Very tame on the adult/mature themes, but still pretty far out. Howl's Moving Castle. Spirited Away. Kiki's Delivery Service. |

There's actually a lot of good anime on netflix.
Full Metal Alchemist and Bleach are my suggestions
|
|
|
Spirited Away was good and I'm no anime aficionado. I liked Akira as well, but I don't recall if it is appropriate for children.

It is not an anime you should watch with children, or anyone who doesn't want to be sad. |

Havent updated in a while, but this list might help
http://myanimelist.net/animelist/luminarc&show=0&order=4 most of them are age appropriate |
|
Akira is on my top 10 list of great movies.
Coming from someone who has never watched any other anime films. Awesome movie. May not be ideal for the kids, but you should watch it regardless. |
|
I have not watched Anime for a long time but I really enjoyed Armitage III: Poly Matrix. Now I watched it on sci-fi network back in 97 so I have no idea if it got racy or not, plus it's been better than 10 years since I've seen it. Think I will see if it's on iTunes.

|
The Trigun movie that just came out is pretty good and I believe age appropriate.
|
|
I really recommend all of these are true one off movies
Wolf Children Summer Wars The Girl who leapt through time Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike If you want over 8 hours plus pick a animated season which is usually 8 hours of material. If you go that route I guess Soul Eater would be a good choice. Though if you give us age groups could help you narrow it down. Just because its animated doesn't mean its safe for kids. |

Here are some classics
Black Magic M-66 fullmovie- out of control assassin bots try to kill their creator's granddaughter Riding Bean full movie, a outlaw driver gets revenge on the gang that set him up on a kidnapping charge Metal Skin Panic Madox01 full movie, kid finds an experimental military power suit lost in a truck crash, hilarity ensues. you're Under Arrest ep1; a new girl joins the police dept, hilarity ensues You're Under Arrest, ep2 Macross DYRL full movie Appleseed(2004) full move, but I prefer the 1988 movie actually. Appleseed (1988) fullmovie If you can find it, the Original Bubblegum Crisis (2032-2033) series (8 videos, not the reimagined 2040 crap) is fracking awesome. Here's one of my favorite songs from the series Run with Anger |
|
Movie -
My Neighbor Totoro. It's cute - it's also very good. Series - Code Geass. Flat out. Arguably the best anime EVER. |
|
cowboy bebop
samurai champloo last exile full metal alchemist trigun now and then here and there witch hunter robin ghost in the shell gunslinger girl vampire hunter d hellsing akira |
|
Nausicaa - Warring cities in a post apocalyptic world.
Cowboy Bebop - Space cowboys. Howl's Moving Castle - Magic and castles and talking fire. Laputa - Laser robots. Desert Punk - Post apocalyptic bounty hunter. 3 of those are Studio Ghibli which were imported by Disney. The other two have been on broadcast TV. |
