I'm fairly new to all this stuff so please forgive me if I don't include all the important specs. I have a 72 chevelle/malibu that I have been tinkering with. Here is what I know:

Motor is a 350 that was bone stock with factory 2 barrel carb. Tranny is a TH350. Unsure if its a 2 or 4 bolt main. It was fairly gutless when I purchased it. I installed an edelbrock performer intake and 650 cfm carb. Also added headers and dual flowmaster exhaust. This woke it up considerably but now I'd like to get a bit more power.

There were a few leaks I wanted to address so my buddy and I pulled the motor. While its out I figured this would be a good time to upgrade some parts.

Casting number on the block is 3970014
Heads 333882

I'd like to keep the parts I have added but was thinking of swapping heads and cam.

Does anyone have any budget head/cam suggestions that won't break the bank?

The Edelbrock series/packages are designed for eachother. Why not just use their performer head and cam, since you already have the manifold?

Order as a kit with lifters.

Your welcome.

Remember, the engine's  displacement sets the maximum torque, and therefore the rate of acceleration in each specific gear.

Put another way, a well tuned 350 will make about 400 foot pounds of torque. A lower compression version, about 350-375.

You can easily calculate the rate of accleration in each gear.

To change this "rate of acceleration" relationship, you can do various things. Including all of them.

1) use a significantly bigger engine.
2) tune your engine to produce rated torque at higher RPM, allowing you to hold a lower gear longer.
3) change the gear ratio (s)
4) use forced induction
5) use liquid forced induction (nitrous)
6) reduce weight.

If you choose the cam and heads route, you are raising the torque curve. You will have a faster car, because you will be able to accelerate in each gear longer. But don't expect rip snorting, tire shedding torque increases.

the easy and budget way would be to go with an edelbrock kit like previously mentioned. off the top of my head doing the heads cam and intake can net you around 375-400hp and trq on a 350 with the right kit. and it will still be very driveable and not break the bank. even just doing a cam can wake up a small block. or you can go crazy like i did but my engine isnt to practical

Ever heard of 'Vortec' heads?  Mid-90s fuelie heads for Silverados, Blazers, etc.  Far more efficient than 40-year-old castings, but requires a Vortec-specific intake manifold (the fasteners are vertical, similar to SBF).  summit racing
The hyperlink is for a new casting (single); I've seen them used for as little as $400 for a pair.

What rear gear is in that Chevelle?  Those are heavy cars; unless its got a high-3-ish:1 ratio, it could use a deeper gear ;)

Don't forget that when you up the HP and TQ, you are going to stress other parts.  You aren't going to just do a little engine work, because you will soon fuck up the transmission, the driveshaft, the rear end, the brakes, etc....

Ask me how I know.  There is very little I haven't replaced on a 1970 Chevelle.

882 heads are very limiting.

Comp cams 268 worked well for me...with 041 heads on the cheap or spend some money and get some vortec heads as suggested.
