The following is from an AP news story:
"Police Lt. Jerry Lewis said the teen-ager shot two people in the restroom, then walked into a quad and fired shots randomly. He stopped to reload his weapon as many as four times, getting off 30 or more shots, Lewis said."
Well, according to that, he must have been using California legal, 10 round (or less) mags.
It's hard to believe that such important legislation as a high capacity magazine ban couldn't stop these random acts of violence.  Hmmmm.....

Leave it to the typical attitude of the modern student:  They interviewed one of the shooters friends, he said that the shooter was talking about doing this all weekend, and the friends said no you won't-well he did.  Don't bother telling anybody about this.  Turns out the friends were scared he might get in trouble if the told someone-for gods sake you idiots! He also told some of his friends not to go to school- they said oh, ok whatever... how much friggin trouble is he in now!  AND 2 people are DEAD!  I can't wait to see the backlash against guns now.

Actually they tried. That was how the security guard got shot.  They probably started from too far away across the quad.

I think the cops succeded though, his revolver seems to have been empty when they arrested him.

But since he reloaded four times and presumably had it loaded to begin with, he fired 45 rounds total.  He may have been out of ammo entirely.  A box of .22's only holds 50 after all.

Nope, CNN is reporting that the weapon was found cocked and loaded.

Guess the kid had been practicing reloading for a while.

2 school shootings - within a few miles and a few days of each other - conclusions:

1) Santana High School:

Unarmed security guard encounters shooter after first shots fired (one dead, one wounded). He is unable to respond with equal force. Result: He is shot 3 times in the back as he attempts to escape the restroom and the shooter is able to reload 4 times, expend in excess of 30 rounds total and kill one more and wound 11 more before he surrenders. Shooter dominates...

2) Granite High School:

Armed SRO (school resource officer) is on duty and in an area restroom when shooter opens fire. He is able to respond and wound the shooter with 2 shots - one in the mouth/jaw (a wound that would deter most of us) and one in the rear section. Result: only a few wounded and NO fatalities - shooter as well as other aspiring little cowards learn a valuable lesson.

Should we arm qualified school security personel and perhaps other staff in US schools? Ask the Israelis if they have had much trouble with this type of thing in their schools since arming teachers and administrators many years ago.....

I rest my case [8]
