Until they officially change the name of san jose, san francisco, los angeles santa barbara and the rest of the colleges named after these catholic figures, they lack the courage of their convinctions.

so fuck them and their hatred of all things christianity.

am I in before the Anti theist crowd tells us that the founders never intended for anything even remotely religious to be present in public.

Also in before the Anti theist crowd tells us that they are the only ones with a constitutional right to be offended.

So you guys are cool with a giant Baphomet statue right?  Or a scale model of Mecca?  Or is your argument that Christianity is "correct" so it gets special snowflake treatment?

If a majority of a local community supports such then yes I am perfectly fine with it.

but that was not your point was it.

I am if it marks the spot where the satanic mission that was built in the city in 1777. It's an historical marker more than a religious one.

What a special snowflake.

Some people wake up every day looking for something to be offended about.

I think it all kind of ties back to a concept that a lot of people miss.  It's the idea that having a protected class (or faith) is inherently discriminatory.  You can't give one faith (or skin color or orientation) special status to try and protect it without denying those same protections to other aspects of our culture.  But if you try and include everyone you go full circle and end up back where you started, not to mention the silliness of having flying spaghetti monster statues in front of court houses and pro pedophile groups wanting to legitimize child abuse.

I'm not sure what the answer is, or if there really is a good answer.  Personally, I couldn't care less about a cross or a mecca but once you get into the weeds it sure turns out to be a complicated thing to tackle.

All the bums in the parks in SanDiego make me uncomfortable; but I don't see anyone doing anything about it.

But foundation member Andrew DeFaria lives not far from the park and as a result has had “unwanted and unwelcome contact with it,” according to the suit.

The 14-foot granite cross was donated by the Santa Clara Lion’s Club in 1953 to mark the site of the second Spanish Catholic mission established in the city in 1777, according to the suit.

But foundation member Andrew DeFaria lives not far from the park and as a result has had “unwanted and unwelcome contact with it,” according to the suit.

I bet the cross was there first. Suck it up, buttercup.

Just put up a concrete: menorah, reindeer, Santa, Xmas tree, star, moon/crescent and call it holiday decorations
Link Posted: 4/24/2016 10:37:25 AM EDT
From reading the article the cross is a historical marker denoting the location of a Spanish mission in 1777. So it is really a historical marker, not specifically endorsing Christianity put pointing out the location of an early catholic mission.

This fucking fool is too dense to see the difference and simply wants it removed because of feels.

To all you other tards saying would I be okay with an Islam or Satan statue, no.

Unless they settled the area in 1776 and had a historically significant settlement, then yes.

It ain't fucking apples to apples. These shit heels simply want to pretend like religious people weren't the first European settlers in a region named for saints and angels.

Would he rather there still be a mission instead of a park there?

I don't mind the cross, it's the holier than thou, guy who won't shut up about his particular religion that bothers me.

Religious architecture from many different cultures are very beautiful.  It should be valued and respected in a historical context.

When it comes to this type of display, why not?

Or are you going to refrence some obscure off the wall thing that has a small percentage chance of actually being supported.
