Starting July 1, 2015, nonlead ammunition will be required when hunting on all California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) lands and for all Nelson bighorn sheep hunts anywhere in the state.

Further phase-out of lead ammunition for hunting in California will continue on July 1, 2016, when nonlead ammunition will be required when hunting with shotguns for upland game birds (except for dove, quail and snipe), small game mammals, fur-bearing mammals and nongame birds except for when hunting at licensed game bird clubs. Nonlead ammunition will also be required when taking wildlife with shotguns for depredation purposes anywhere in the state.

Starting July 1, 2019, hunters must use nonlead ammunition when taking any animal anywhere in the state for any purpose.

Hunting is legal in Kali?

On a serious note, I am sure there is some epic hunting in California, but I have NEVER seen it touted in print or online as a hunting destination.

I believe California is the only state in the United States to have 3 species of Elk. Rocky Mountain, Roosevelt, and Tule. Pig hunting along the coast is good and there are some nice deer on the north eastern edge and south eastern sierra mountains.  It also sits on the Pacific flyway for ducks and we have healthy quail, duck and turkey populations. There is plenty of black bears if thats your thing. Most of the deer hunting is underwhelming due to the way the deer population is managed.  We also have big horn sheep but you have to be rich or extremely lucky to draw a tag. there is also Antelope in the north east of the state.

Meh, more ammunition is now available for America!

I hated to post that, but CA is a lost cause.  When I was doing language training at DLI in the 90s I used to go quail hunting at hunter ligget and it was absolutely awesome out there ( and in Monterrey) but there is nothing in this world that would ever make me live there now - or even visit.

The authority of the game wardens, puts police to shame.  They will do spot checks, and they have the ability to confiscate anything used to violate hunting and fishing regulations.  This includes guns, boats, and vehicles; if they choose to be an asshole.

Yup. Not quite sure how they check the bullet without cutting it open though.

No different than federal regs about carrying any lead shot on you when hunting waterfowl.

Great duck hunting, good turkey and hog, upland game birds are pretty good.  Deer?  Work your butt off.  Early season here - end of September to end of October.  It is generally still hot out and the deer are scattered in the mountains.

So where the hell do you find "nonlead" 22 ammo for hunting small game?   I'm thinking rabbits, squirrels, etc.

I wouldn't want to be the poor bastard to be stopped and searched by fish and game. Those fucks will confiscate your truck, your rifles, your baby killer ammo, your house, and your first born.

And that's AFTER they shoot your dog.

There aren't many wardens, but if they happen to find and search ya, you'd be sooo fucked. Fuck the California commie gubment.

Lead is a toxic and trying to avoid it from getting in the water and food supply isn't a bad idea at all.

Do I support a ban? No, but eliminating lead from wild and recreational areas is a good idea.

The lead being dug out of the ground, melted down, and cast into bullets certainly shouldn't be reintroduced to nature, right?
