Ok, I know there's a complete ban on the AR-15, but can I legally buy a M1A? Thanks, John

Yes. Kali version has a brake instead of a flash hider. Good thing you stocked up on all those 20 round USGI mags way back when. What have you got, ten or eleven of them? I thought you were an idiot for buying mags when you didn't have a weapon that took the mags, but now I see your plan.

Get one while you can. Nice rifles. And who in Kali didn't stock up on mags for all sorts of future purchases? My wife thought I was crazy then [:)]

Thanks, guys. Any suggestions on where to get one and what kind to get? All comments, suggestions, opinions, are all greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

oh, you can still get ar *style* rifles. I was at a gunshow recently and some vendors were selling a ar type that loads from the top, no mag. They were asking 850.Capacity was 10 rds.Dont know the manufacturer, didnt ask. I also saw M1A's in all sorts of flavors; scout, synthetic stock, wood stock, loaded, unloaded, etc...

Yeah, I saw those "ar style rifles" at the last show. Ugly as sin if you ask me.

Any help at all?

Turners on Tustin had two last time I was in, a rack grade and a synthetic stocked shorty with a forward rail. Both were $1300, which seemed high. Arm USA usually has a few, and Gold Coast Trading has them, they seem to specialize. They are expensive, but are nice.

John- Are you near Centerfire Arms in Riverside,Ca? Last time I was there they had a standard for 1199.

John... You can get a Kalif-legal M1A - it has a muzzle brake instead of a flash hider. Glad you got some mags ahead of time, smart move, you did what I did.

Sounds like me! Yep, I've got hicap mags for guns that I don't even own yet - amongst others, M1 Carbine, Ber. 92, ParaOrdnance, Ruger P85 (for their 9mm carbine I wanna get someday), etc. Bought my M1A mags 12/99 before I got the rifle a year later. Still haven't gotten my FALs smithed yet into firing shape, but I have nearly 30 mags for 2 FALs; also went nuts on AR mags before ban and have about 10 mags for each AR (some are NIW, some old and not much finish but the mag tubes & lips are fine). Mags are worth enough now - esp Colt 9mm AR hicap mags! - that they are kept in gunsafe. Bill Wiese San Jose, CA

Back in my day, the Springfield Armory National Match M1As were $1400 and the Standards were $1000. Mags were $10 NIW, $6 used.

So, is $1,459.00 too much?
