Holy Shit! An anti gun group did a study that actually validates a pro gun community argument.

Hell, no study was needed. It's common sense, and the favt that they are willing to use common sense in this arguement goes to show what lengths the anti's will go to to ban guns!!!

All depends if it's the unconstitutional gun laws that they're not enforcing. There should only be one gun law neccessary: Use a gun to forcably commit a crime, life in prison for you.

We don't really need any gun laws.  The laws should be against committing murder (whatever the weapon), armed robbery (whatever the weapon), armed assault (whatever the weapon)... well, you get the idea.

Clearly, this hasn’t been a priority for a Democratic or Republican Justice Department for a long time. And the study shows that in many states, federal prosecutors neglect gun laws flat out.

I read the Americans for Gun Safety Foundation report, and the criticism of the Justice Department is striking.  Aren't most gun laws (i.e. those that don't come into effect while commiting another crime) enforced by the BATF, and the BATF used to belong to the Treasury Department before the Homeland Defense reorg?  I took this enforcement issue to be more obfuscation on the part of the anti's.

Yeah, but don't get your hopes up too high. Notice how the dates they cite are almost entirely AFTER 2000, like when GWB has been President?

Notice how they avoided the 90's, when practically ALL the laws were ignored?

Gun-Grabber: "The Brady Law has prevented 235,000 guns from getting into the wrong hands in the first 3 years alone...." (or some similar rubbish)

Gun-owner: "Really? How many of those 235,000 attempted felonies were prosecuted?"
Gun-owner: "Hello?"

See what I mean?

Still, it's nice to see CBS, of all places, get it at least PARTIALLY right.

The gun lobby right now is at the absolute top of its game. The Democratic Party is in full retreat on gun issues. Just listen to the party’s most liberal presidential candidate, Howard Dean: “We need to get guns off the national radar screen if Democrats are ever going to win in the South and the West.”

Congress is on the verge of giving the gun industry protections from civil lawsuits that no other business could dare dream of. That would put a stop to pesky lawsuits that gun victims and interest groups have filed against dealers and manufacturers.

The ban on assault weapons is likely to expire next year, even though President Bush said he favors extending it. He’s just not going to actually do anything to extend it, proving a wily president can have his cake and eat it.

This sums it up for me as well.  I don't give a damn HOW someone kills, robs, assaults, etc...  The whole system is obsessed with minutia, "intents" and "special circumstances", not about the core crime and the core punishment.

But of course, if it did become a simpler most of the so-called “criminal justice system” would collapse (and a LOT of lawyers and bureaucrats would find themselves out of work) as it’s become all about money and power, not about law enforcement, protecting the people and justice.

It's obvious that it would just be easier to ban all gun sales rather than try and enforce the laws we have on the books.

aparently dean has pretty much avoided the gun issue altogether. no way to know what he thinks.. he is from vermont, the most gun friendly state in the union. but also a liberal haven, they vote almost streight dom there, and all other areas of life are heavily regulated and taxed..

so there you have it. even if he is gun-OK (not friendy) is he worth the rest of the socialist crap he may attempt?
