Obama wants to get rid of the penny. I'm OK with that for two reasons.
1. I can't remember the last time I used a penny. I pay for all that I can on the credit card as I earn miles on it 2. I'm hoping all that freed up copper can go towards brass for ammo so supplies will increase and prices will drop. People here cool with this? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/obama-suggests-open-getting-rid-penny-234637403--politics.html |

"A penny earned is a penny..." Wait, they let us raise the debt ceiling again? "A nickel earned is a nickel saved." |
|
It's a start.
Get rid of the penny, dime and nickel. Paper one and five dollar bills replaced with coins. Give us a $500 bill. |
|
We just actually, and for real, got rid of the penny up here in Canada... Feb 4th...

So now Obama wants to ban pennies!
Will this ban shit never stop? |
|
So what happens when I buy an item that comes out to $20.77? Do I eat the 3 cent loss, or does the store eat the 2 cent loss?
|
|
What happens when I purchase something that is $2.96 and I give them $3.00?

you do realize that there is very little copper in the current penny, right?
Taken from coinflation.com There are 0.0054 pounds of zinc and 0.0001 pounds of copper in $.01 face value of zinc cent(s). » A roll of zinc cent(s) has 50 coins and is valued at $0.29 when zinc is at $0.9773 / lb and copper at $3.7141 / lb (exact value is $0.2881772457733). |

What happens when I purchase something that is $2.96 and I give them $3.00? Let me guess, you're the asshole who bitchs about your gas coming to $40.984? Gas has been charged to the tenth of a cent since a tenth of a cent was worth more than the current penny. No one had a problem with it. A penny in 1940 would have been worth 16 cents today. We could kill off the nickel and the dime and we would still have smaller denominations than they had in 1940. |

Rather than get rid of a coin, they should get rid of a decimal point.
Dump the penny, nickel and quarter; keep the dime and re-size the half dollar for easier carry. |

They'll just raise prices to land on the .05$ This. They already said that was exactly the plan after speaking to retailers. |

I'm ok with that. It's a worthless denomination anyway. I hate getting them back as change and usually leave them in the take a penny leave a penny tray because I don't want them in my pocket to pick through if I'm trying to buy soda or what not.

Yes, what better way to prove our faltering economy.
Roll out the $1,000 bills while raising minimum wage by $2. What a great idea. |
|
Fisting the crack again I see! |
|
Pennies used to be worth something. Now they aren't worth squat thanks to the horrific monetary policy that this country is embracing.
