OKLAHOMA CITY -- One man is dead and an Oklahoma County police dog injured after jumping off a bridge.
Police said the dog was chasing Donny Tannehill, 31, after he bailed out of his car near the Fort Smith junction at Interstates 35 and 40. According to police, Tannehill fell more than 100 feet from the bridge over the interstate, and the dog jumped as well.
The K-9 officer, named A-Joe, suffered some internal injuries but no broken bones, according to veterinarians.
"We're pleasantly surprised about the condition of A-Joe," said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. "He's a 3-year-old who's been with the force now for a year, and one of our finest dogs."
Tannehill died in the fall, making him the fifth person to die in an Oklahoma City police chase in the past two months and the second in the past two days.
