OKLAHOMA CITY -- One man is dead and an Oklahoma County police dog injured after jumping off a bridge.

Police said the dog was chasing Donny Tannehill, 31, after he bailed out of his car near the Fort Smith junction at Interstates 35 and 40. According to police, Tannehill fell more than 100 feet from the bridge over the interstate, and the dog jumped as well.

The K-9 officer, named A-Joe, suffered some internal injuries but no broken bones, according to veterinarians.

"We're pleasantly surprised about the condition of A-Joe," said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. "He's a 3-year-old who's been with the force now for a year, and one of our finest dogs."

Tannehill died in the fall, making him the fifth person to die in an Oklahoma City police chase in the past two months and the second in the past two days.

I just played the video for my mom, her comments. Now watch the family is going to sue the department. They are going to say the dog falling on him killed him not the 100ft fall. I wouldn't doubt it that they would try.

The fall didn't kill him. It was the sudden stop at the bottom.

"Mrs. Tannehill, I'm Sargeant Smith from the Oklahoma City PD. I have two pieces of really good news concerning your scum bag husband.  He's dead from a 100 foot fall while being chased by one of our K-9 units. And he almost made HERO status with our Dept. by breaking the fall, and saving the life of our K-9 dog that was chasing him."

That dumbass "hero" must have had some bad, bad Karma... for
1.  that 100' fall and
2.  having a 80-100# dog land on top of his ass.

Good dog.  Saved us taxpayers a lot of money!

I love German Shepherds

ETA In the video he really looks like he's feeling kinda puny... I mean I know a 100 ft fall would do that.  But I hope he recovers well.
