Well, for one thing, they cost between one and three hundred dollars apiece, while a typical whiteboard of that size costs considerably less than twenty, and probably cost less than ten if you buy them in bulk, like a school district would.

Furthermore, their absurd cost is going to be used to protect (ineffectually) against something vanishingly uncommon. It's like installing V-shaped hulls on school buses in case one of them hits a land mine.

Did you guys know that a backpack with 2-3 average textbooks will stop a .45 round? It will, but people are still buying These for their kids. Never mind the fact that the backpack will spend most of the day in the locker where it has 0% chance of helping.

Oh my god. I just noticed two things at that link:

1. In the picture in the header, they have a 3-view of the lady holding it up to protect her face and torso... making it patently obvious that her legs (and hips and lower abdomen) are completely unprotected.

Makes sense. Although most trauma plates aren't that big either and they are for adults.
