I recently took my young cousing shooting, she's 8 years old. Her father (busily reading the stocks in the newspaper) said, sure as long as she doesn't kill anything or get hurt. So we put 250 rounds through a plain-jane 10/22 scoped. I taught her all the safety, rules, and respect for a gun, and then showed her how to check if loaded, etc. Then I put it in her hands. She loved it! We had a great time, but after about 100 rounds, I turned to load a magazine when I heard her cry for approval:

"Can I Thoot Tha Bunny?" It melted my heart to hear that I'm creating a gun-lover, but I had to tell her no or her father would disapprove of her shooting ever again. [^]

We enjoyed the afternoon shooting balloons, AOL CD's, and saltines. We got home only for me to face the wrath of her Anti-Gun Mom (a MMM Member). I had to explain how I taught her safety, and all kinds of things. She didn't care about her daughter's safety, she never asked how my cousin was or whether she had fun when we walked into the door. She just started screaming at me. Then after her husband cooled her down by letting her know he approved of it she shut up. While she was screaming my cousin walked into the kitchen and took a bowl upstairs because she was "dwawin sumphin" for me. About 45 minutes afterwards she walked downstairs with the most bizzarly cute crayola scattered paper I've seen. It was what she wanted to do the most!!! I loved it so much, I finally took the time to get a Photopoint account and scan it in for you guys to see...

PS.  Now all she wants for her Birthday this summer from her dad is a "Wooger 22" [:D]

Don't let her take that picture to school, she'll be expelled, arrested, tried and executed for inappropriate thought.  

We need more people to introduce shooting and hunting to youths. You did good. By the way, keep shooting those damn AOL CDs.

Draws better than me too!  She forgot three things though:
1) Scope would have made bunny 9 times bigger (or body outside scope 9x smaller)
2) Reticle had Mil-Dots
3) Scope had See-Thru mounts for teaching her on Iron Sights too.

Also, sometime soon I'm bringing her dad along, and we'll shoot bigger guns then in addition to the 22's.  Then we'll (the three of us) work on converting her mommy.

I recommend AOL cds for ANYONE!  I have about 400 left to shoot!  Help rid the world of these!  Treat them like COCKROACHES or something.  When I see them in a box by the exit of Walmart (I don't shop there the ExGirlF did), I took the whole darn box!  Get about 300 free targets per box.  Or pick them up in handfulls at target, or wherever you see them.


PS.  If any of you know ANYONE who you could bring to the range, particularly ANTI's, MAKE AN EFFORT to convert them!  I think it's possible, MMMers are like millions of Darth Vaders!  There is GOOD IN THEM, I CAN SENSE IT!  The empire (media) hasen't driven it from them fully!  Remember, if taking children for their first several times, USE FUN TARGETS to make it better!  Balloons!  Big-City phone books (see how deep bullets go), Saltine Crackers (also go good as a snack @ the range with cheeze & meat), AOL CDs (hung on a nail), tin cans...  U get the point, be creative.
