Yea I saw that story on Drudge – One thing I don’t get...
Britain is infamous for torturing and killing IRA/Shin feign terrs. Why are they adopting this ‘moral high ground’  BS?? Something does not compute.

I heard on Fox News that in all likelyhood, if British forces capture Bin Ladin, they'll immediately hand him over to American troops bypassing an extridition. I believe they would do just that.

I think that is Britain's "official" stance.  It's not like the SAS has a history of producing many living terrorists for trial or anything...

I seriously doubt that the Brits are gonna be the ones who capture Osama, but they should beware that with their statement, he might just decide to walk into their campsite one day!

I have read that they would turn him over, probably while still in Afganistan.

WTSHTF Tony Blair was THERE for us.  If you remember, he did a lot of the talking about Bin Laden's culpability, and it was just us and the Brits for a while.  SAS were the first reported western combatants in country.  things have gone well and we seem to have a grip on things for the time being.  Blair came out and said no go on Saddam, and we'll see about OBL and taking the needle.  I believe that now the squeeze is off he is replenishing some of his political capital by showing he is not a US puppet, not going to lead his country headlong into unknown danger, stand up for Britain's governing principals, blah blah.  It is the exact opposite of what most politicians do, talk tough  when safe but run and hide when it matters.  If we really need him again he will be there for us.  If he keeps his people happy he will be there for us longer.  Just my opinion.

Well as a piece of bait that would be fine , but otherwise I say that statement by whomever made it is complete bullshit.

I have to wonder if maybe they made the statement in hopes that he would do exactly that.

What's really rich about this deal is that we've used the British SAS for our wet-work since the rules regarding assassination have been in place.

Ever since we whooped them twice 200+ years ago they have been the best ally we have had. England, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand have always been there for us. Obviously we have been there for them as well. Blair has to say what the liberal brits want to hear. Until it happens it means nothing. There were commonwealth units in Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm.

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Britain would immediately hand over Osama bin Laden to the United States if he was captured by its troops, officials have said.

The British prime minister's office moved on Monday to dispel any question of a potential rift with the U.S. over the possible death penalty being imposed in the case of bin Laden being extradited.

Twice? Say what? We won the American Revolution (with a lot of help from the French, Spanish and Dutch), but NOBODY won the inconclusive War of 1812. It was a draw for both sides. The US bungled most of the war quite badly, esp. in Maryland and Ontario. The Battle of New Orleans, while making a hero of Andy Jackson, and giving American morale a shot in the arm, was fought and won after the Peace Treaty had been signed. Game over, didn't count. Indeed, if anybody lost the War of 1812, it was, as always, the Indians....

True, but as 19th cent. British PM Benjamin Disraeli said, "Britain has no permanent friends, but it does have permanent interests." We just happen to be one of them.

One thing is certain: ANYTHING could happen in this crazy war. Osama Bin-laden could give himself up to a country that won't turn him over to us. It's certainly possible, although far-fetched. Speaking of far-fetched: American Talibans, anybody? Nobody had thought of that one before all this. What's next?

I saw the interview (don't remember who it was) where this issue came up.  Whoever made this statement was an idiot.

It was moronic to make a statement like this because it was extremely hypothetical and likely to cause a rift with the U.S..  The person answering this question should have said, "We would, of course, have to go through proper legal channels.   At this time, I really couldn't tell you what would happen because it is not an issue currently before our government."

i.e. someone needs a PR lesson.

Since neither the Brits nor the Americans can decide who gets O.B. Laudanum, I think it only fair to share.

They can have one half, we can have the other half.
Maybe the French will donate a guillotine?  They must have some.

The problem is that the Brits signed some BS Human Rights treaty among the other socialist countries in Europe that forbids them from extraditing criminals to a country that has capital punishment.  That's why the Spanish and Germans won't extradite terrorist suspects to the US because we won't guarantee that we won't execute them.  Actually, I think that Britain saying that they would just exchange Bin Laden among each side's troops is to save face with both sides.  They have to stick to that treaty, no matter how stupid it is, but they want to remain on our good side.  The simple exchange in Afghanistan would avoid them having to go through a long battle over extraditing him to the US.  This way, they just hand him over, we're happy, and they haven;t violated that moronic treaty.

According to CNN this morning, Blair said that if they caught osama they'd send him to us.  They also said that some politicians in britain were opposed to this because of the death penalty thing, but it sounds like blair would send him anyway.

If they decide not to hand him over, then so be it.  They can house him in their country at their expense, and deal with all the neat little things that will probably come along with it.

However, I doubt it would ever come to that.  Osama will end up in our hands, dead or alive.  And I'll personally be throwing pork skins in his coffin.

I think Bin Ladin is dead already. They just play up the chase deal so that the public will stay pro-war. I figure Bush has Bin Ladin's head stuffed in a big jar of Pickled Pigs Feet!!

Thats fine, let our goverment assure them THEY wont give him the death penlty. just lock him in a stadium with no access to the spectator area, now arm 50 or so civilians(100-200 rounds each) with accurate rifles with scopes le US the voters deal with him. ohh and give him a few walls to hide behind so he has a chance, he wont be able to avouf 500-1000 rounds of ammo from various positions..

(ok so this is a work related bordum induced ddball thought....)
