Talking head on CNN said a flashlight with corroded batteries exploded.

L.A. Airport Shut Down; Possible Security Breach
Saturday, September 04, 2004

LOS ANGELES  — Los Angeles International Airport (search) was shut down early Saturday because of a possible security breach and a separate incident at an international terminal security screening station, an airport spokesman said.

No information was immediately available on the incident at Tom Bradley International Terminal (search), airport spokesman Harold Johnson said.

Officials also did not explain the possible security breach that shut down terminals 6, 7 and 8. The terminals are connected.

Traffic was being diverted from the airport.

Just more irresponsible reporting to get the attention of viewers on an otherwise slow news day. Assholes!

These assclowns wouldn't know an explosion from a Taco Bell beef burrito generated fart.

Anyway, back to the Michigan vs. Miami of Ohio football game. I'll monitor this thread just in case.

Hey there sonny, you need to add some more of dat dar fiber to your diet. It flushes all those toxins right outta your system the first thing in the morning! Metamucil son, it's the key to regularity! Plus, it prevents you from being confused with a WMD while at airports!

A flashlight has long been one of the easiest devices in which to make a bomb or booby trap from. Just pack it with explosive compound and rig it to detonate. This was being done in Vietnam and un-telling how long before.

Not saying this is the case here, but flashlights can easily be made into bombs.

I read it was a flashlight that exploded.  I'd guess that the battery in a flashlight exploded.  A short circuited battery could do this.  Lithium cells can do this but NiCd is particularly susceptible, too.
