If they admit the memos were fake and yet are STILL are "protecting" the source then they are complicit in covering up criminal fraud and forgery. The ONLY reasons CBS would keep protecting the source or stalling in releasing the names are 1) if it were a MAJOR inside CBS source (Dan himself) or 2) they come from the Kerry campaign  |

Their retraction is only rumored at this point. Supposedly Rather is still "in discussions."
The WaPo and Howard Kurtz have been pretty devestatig to CBS on this story. The bloggers got the ball rolling, but the mainstream media (at least parts of it) eventually got on the story and drove it with the resources they could throw at it. |

I think CBS is just looking for a scapegoat to put this on. From reading the NYT and Washington Post articles it seem they might be aiming for 1)Bill Burkett 2) Mary Mapes (the producer). Dan will never admit he did anything wrong. He's doing the OJ thing by "looking for the real culprit" that did it.
