To: Law Enforcement Colleagues
From: John Shanks, Director

Sub: Legislative Alert: .50 Caliber Sniper Weapons Regulation Act of 2005
Dear Colleague,
Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Senate to regulate .50 caliber sniper rifles under the
National Firearms Act (S. 935 “Fifty Caliber Sniper Weapons Regulation Act of 2005”). We are
asking for the support of your state association and your members to pass this bill and help
prevent criminals and terrorists from obtaining these dangerous weapons.
Included on this web site are documents explaining how .50 caliber sniper rifles pose a threat to
our communities and our homeland security. Please review and share this information with your
members. These weapons were designed for military use, with a range of over four miles, and
the ability to take down an airplane, pulverize concrete bunkers, destroy armored vehicles, or
penetrate several inches of steel. They have been used by known domestic and international
terrorist organizations, outlaw motorcycle gangs, religious cults, international and domestic drug
traffickers, and violent criminals.
S. 935 would impose the same legal limitations on sales and other transfers of .50 caliber sniper
rifles that now apply to machine guns. The legislation does not ban these weapons, but would
require, as with other NFA-regulated weapons, that all transfers of new or used .50 caliber sniper
rifles be regulated, subject to fingerprint background checks and approval by a local law
enforcement officer.
If you would like to include your organization’s name, as well as names of individual members
of your organization, on a letter to the U.S. Senate showing support for this valuable legislation,
please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and tell me to include your name. My staff is
available to assist you with answering questions, or you may contact me directly at 202-289-
5791 or via e-mail.
Respectfully,
John Shanks, Director

Does the .50 really have a 4mile range or is that complete and utter horseshit?

I thought it was more like 2/3 mile.

The WV Constitution would prohibit a ban on 50 cals. I don't think an ,so called AW ban would be Constitutional in WV.

3-22.  W.V. Right to keep and bear arms.

A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, and for lawful hunting and recreational use.

How can one defend a State if one doesn't have the tools to do so? There fore a ban in WV would be Un-Constitutional.

Look up your States constitution and see if that is written in yours as well. I think a lawsuit filed against a State or Locality would ultimately end up in the supreme coart .

A .22 can be lobbed over 1.5 miles should they ban those too

Sure.... If you aim with an artillary chart....

Incidently assumeing you had a 1 MOA rifle (which is the accuracy Barrett claims for the M-82A1, the rifle the anti-gunners seem to primarily focus on....), and the ammunition to match at 4 miles your group would be about 64.37 inches, or 5.36 FEET, but more likely you'de get about 2 MOA (with Barretts match ammo....) so it would be about 128.74 inches or 10.72 feet....

This is assumeing you zeroed your rifle at 100 Meters to get the 1 MOA....

Actually, it's 2 bills.

H.R. 654 was introduced by Congressman Moran of VA in March of 2005 and S.935 was introduced by Senator Feinstein of CA in April of 2005.  Both bills were referred to committee shortly thereafter.  No action since.

Does she have bodyguards armed with guns? Have their guns risen up to smite her down yet? Why does she think ours will?

Reminds me of this beautiful list of crimes committed with .50 cals that weren't even actually being used in crime. I guess they had to pull something out of their ass, huh? I counted four actual crimes on a list of 13. I read this just to laugh at how they can use a list like THIS to push legislation on guns.

HA!  And the rest of their examples show exactly why a ban would be pointless- posessions/purchases/sales regardless of law.  It would be comical if it wasn't so serious.

Good thing there is a necked down .50 to a .40 caliber projectile.

Supersonic at 2500+/- yards, 400-grain solid brass, boat-tail, projectial. Muzzle velocity of Mach 3

Ban the .50 cal and get bitch slapped by something even worse

"Branch Davidian cult members at a compound in Waco, Texas, fired 50 caliber sniper rifles at federal ATF agents during their initial gun battle on February 28, 1993. The weapons' ability to penetrate tactical vehicles prompted the agency to request military armored vehicles to give agents adequate protection from the 50 caliber rifles and other more powerful weapons the Branch Davidians might have had. Four ATF agents were killed. ("Weaponry: .50 Caliber Rifle Crime," GAO Office of Special Investigations letter, August 4, 1999) "

Sounds like they were shot with .50 cals doesn't it?  Fucking liars.  These guys were shot inside the compound with smaller rifles.  It was after their deaths that the seige started and the military was called in.

Is it me, or does it look like the .416 Barrett is a necked down and improved .50 Spotter Tracer case?
