For me, it really depends on my mood.

It depends on how "formal" I feel that evening.

In decreasing order of formality:

Single Malt Scotch straight> Blended Scotch, on the rocks> bourbon

Those are dark liquors

Gin can enter on any day, if I feel fanciful.

I am a big fan of it also. I think it blows away many more expensive bourbons. Basil hayden's is smoother, but the BT has more flavor IMHO.

Aberlour, it is winter, and scotch is a great winter drink!

Also check out Balvanie 10yr old founders reserve for scotch, and George Dickle white label for whiskey, you wont be disappointed by either

The only brand of rye carried by my local ABC store is Old Overholt so I don't have a big choice at the moment.  I think Mount Vernon is supposed to be selling some on a limited scale at some point...

ETA if folks don't know Overholt is made at the Jim Beam plant.

Gonna get high man I'm gonna get loose,
Need me a triple shot of that juice
Gonna get drunk don't you have no fear
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

Irish whiskey (enjoyed some 10yr Bushmill earlier).

If a speyside, lowland or highland Scotch,go with that. Otherwise, good old KY bourbon is just as tasty.

For me... BOURBON!!!

I enjoy a nice Bourbon and Coke, usually Beam..

But the other night I did a poker night some friends.. Had some Makers (war Bourbon! in the red White and Blue bottle) and some Knob... Not top top shelf, but good enough for me. Had them on the rocks of course.

We call it WAR BOURBON!

Been in more of a brandy mood lately.

Though for Scotch:

Glenlivet
Glenfiddich

Bourbon:

Beam
Evan Williams

Really depends on my mood though.
