Damn can't argue with the price. I may swing by Academy later and bother the gun counter guys.

Mossberg Maverick, .30-06 from Academy, $179. Comes with bases, and I'll probably add some Millett rings and a Primary Arms 3-9x40 scope.

It's all for my spoiled rotten 14 year old. He used my Remington 700 last year in 7mm mag, and knocked 'em dead. I figured he needs his own rifle, and that price was hard to pass up. Who am I kidding? That price is insanely cheap. Obviously I haven't shot it yet - it was kind of an impulse purchase after seeing the sales price. Fit and finish? Well, it's a plastic-stock bolt action rifle, and they're generally hard to mess up. Web reviews generally seem good, so I figure it'll be a good first deer rifle. If it shoots about 2" at 100 yards, it'll be more than sufficient. I'll update the thread when I actually shoot it...

where did you get it?

Very nice price for a first rifle. Good going dad!

The cheaper larger cal rifles are usually more picky about the ammo it will shoot tight. Try lots of different types.

You just can't beat that.

The stock is ideal. I love wood stocks, but synthetics are light and durable.

Here's to lots of food

Thanks bastard...  That $180 rifle just cost me almost $400

They had .270/.30-06/.243 available.  Got the .243, only took 40 minutes this time.  I've been there over an hour before (even with CHL)

I just got the Savage/Stevens 200 .270 there a couple months ago for $190 on closeout.  I'm going to go broke saving all this money, but when functional rifles are dropping to near Mosin prices what can ya do?
