Bought this at Amazon and am looking for a Blu Ray Player

Thought about this one, but it seems it has a real issue and won't work with NetFlix.

So - what's a decent BR player to pair with this TV?

ETA: saw the TV will go direct to NetFlix, so BR player is mainly for playing DVDs

There are three ways to go -

PS3, which, if you hadn't heard, is a most excellent Bluray player, has Netflix and internet access, etc.PS3 on CNET

Oppo, a wierd brand name, for sure, but an excellent Bluray player.  Oppo on CNET

Panasonic or Sony Bluray player, which are good players but limited in almost every other way.Sony on CNET

Should have mentioned I'd like to stay under $200, Play Station isn't something I really want - OPPO looks great, the price . . . . ouch!

Oh - TV is 3D, kids want 3D, parents of course pay for it

Just looking - it seems some BR are good at 3D, others not.

ETA: wants = 3D and online services that aren't bundled with the TV - special interest in VuDu. OPPO BDP-93 Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player looks like it's actually worth the extra $

I thought it did but wasn't sure , so I went and checked.  The PS3 also does 3D.

I know, I know, it's a PS3.  Everyone thinks it's a gaming console.  It is NOT.  It is a seriously good Bluray player, Netflix streamer, etc.

From the PS3 web site:

"Enjoy a whole new dimension of 3D movies, sports, and video games from Sony, the leader in 3D entertainment. Play true stereoscopic 3D video games, the best high-definition Blu-ray™ movies, and exclusive games, only on the PlayStation®3 system."

Thanks for the help!

I have a Sony BRD player.. couldn't justify the PS3 (I have a PS2 and it doesn't get that much use, and a PS3 would warrant an additional expense just for games)
I love my player.  I can remote control it via my ifone, the streaming content get the most use via Netflix.
I'm very happy with it (except that when watching streaming content, if you open the cd drawer, it kills the stream)

Well this is gonna be a home theater and even though OPPO is more than I wanna spend, Amazon's pice on the TV dropped, so I am due a $223 credit - about half what the player costs.

TV is wireless so I can go direct to NetFlix without using the player.  Big plus for me with the player is the audio, I figure sound bars run $250 and up . . .  so between the credit and $ saved on a sound bar, may as well get the OPPO.

I did find other players that will do what I need, the audio is what hooked me.  Thanks for the input.

I didn't mean to push the PS3 on you too much.  I just wanted to make a point.

I'm glad you found something you like.  If I helped, I was glad to do so in some small way.

No - BIG help and greatly appreciated, but you're not done yet . . .

I wil open another thread on stereo/receiver/speaker arrangement.

Hooked it up last night - awesome picture quality, kids wanted to watch Avatar in 3D.  I watched a bit - we are alll very happy with the setup so far.

Now the audio aspect is the last component in a world-class theater set up.

I have a PS3. We bought it primarily to use as a media server and for the Blu-Ray.

Yamaha's new Aventage line. 3D ready, network ready, and the features are too numerous to list.

Speakers? I have Klipsch mains and the rest of my surrounds are Aperion Audio. Great stuff.

Ok - it's all hooked up and is awesome IMHO.

The worst thing is the wires being exposed.  I planned to buy a mount like this to hide the wiring, but alas, the wife doesn't like it.

Any further suggestions on stashing the wires?

Thanks to the gurus who helped me pull all of this together.  I always tell people - what the folks on ARFCOM don't know - ain't worth knowing.

I'm with the wife on this one.

How about running the cable in your wall?  Punch a hole in the wall behind the TV and one behind the media stand, install a pass thru in both holes and run the cabling.  That's what I did.  Nice, neat and clean.

I recently did this upgrade myself - bought a Panasonic 65" ST30 model, and a Panasonic 210 BD player.  I realized after I bought them that my beautiful but outdated Pioneer Elite AV receiver wasn't up to the task - it had no HDMI capability and would not decode most of the commonly used surround formats in use today. I ended up buying a fairly high end Denon receiver (AVR-4311ci) and was generally very happy. Then I discovered Oppo BD players, and more importantly the fact that the Oppo BDP-93 will play SACD and DVD-Audio discs, outputting the signal to the receiver via HDMI.  I ended up buying the Oppo and moving my Panasonic BD player into the bedroom.  I am amazed every time I watch the new setup!

I have Paradigm Studio 60's for front mains and surrounds, Paradigm Studio CC, and Servo-15 sub, so my audio is outstanding!

Did you get the free 3D glasses deal with the TV?  I bought 2 TV's so I got two sets (and two copies of Avatar 3D) with my order. I sold one of the copies of Avatar on eBay for $90.
