I just bought a 50 caliber vulcan arms rifle from centerfire systems. Anyone have any experiences/reviews on this rifle? Anyone got any sources of cheap or reasonably priced 50 caliber ammunition? I am just looking for ammo to plink with, doesnt have to be anything special like match, armor piercing, tracer, raufoss, slap, etc... I just need some basic ball/FMJ ammo for shooting on my personal target range which is about 100 yards long from one end to the other.

Mods, if this is the wrong place for this message, please move appropriately! .

Thanks
daniel

OH THE HORROR!!!!!!1!!!! GROUND THE AIRPLANES NOW FOR THE CHILDREN!!!

You lucky sumbitch

For some reason, plinking and .50bmg sounds funny, but I'd seriously recommend investing in a reloader system for it, if there was any round that reloading would save you money on, it would be the .50bmg

is it too late to cancel the order?

I hate to be an asshole, but you're going to regret buying a Vulcan later

Do a search on www.biggerhammer.net

Most people who are into BMGs shy away from Vulcan.

I have an AR-50 myself.

This is one reply from a guy on the biggerhammer forum.
(his name is Steve)

Don't make the mistake I did ! This gun is not too bad looking with the laminated stock and all, but the quality of the machining is TERRIBLE ! I've been shooting and reloading for 35+ years, and after half a dozen shots from this gun I was genuinely afraid to shoot it again. Turned out it had circumferential scores in the chamber (evidently from chips getting under the reamer during manufacture), the firing pin hole in the bolt face was machined out of line with the bolt axis, and it showed signs of significantly increased chamber pressure with each successive shot. Other posts warning about this gun are not pulling your leg !

There is a photo on Biggerhammer where a guy turned his Vulcan into a lamp,
complete with lampshade and lightbulb.

Figured it was the safest thing to do with it.

Holy crap!

You know we have a 50BMG forum in ARMS & TACTICS?

IRRC the FCSA won't even allow Vulcan (read H-E-S-S-E) at their matches.

Good thing you have your own range.  That way no one else will be endangered by the shrapnel if you do decide to proceed.

ETA:
Seriously, if you can cancel, do so fast.  You can do much better.

Cancel that order, and then look up Bluegrass Armory   ..... hell you're already in Kentucky !

You can get a Viper XL from Bluegrass for $2295. I got one and I love it... it's a great gun.

As for ammo, I've been ordering from www.sportsmansguide.com. Their prices are good, their shipping rates are good, and they ALWAYS have coupons floating around that you can use.

Yes, its too late to cancel the order.. I hope that I dont regret spending the money on the vulcan 50 caliber.. I was assured by centerfire systems that it was overall a reliable rifle and was even told about people using it regularly to shoot groundhogs somewhere. It seems like an overall nice rifle. I hope it doesnt malfunction or anything. I didnt buy it to be a safe queen, nor will it really see a *lot* of use, but its something I've always wanted.

Most of the Vulcan "issues" are just internet rumors from people who have never owned, shot, or even seen a Vulcan.
I've built on 5 Vulcan AR receivers with ZERO issue's.

Good luck with your fiddey!

Key thing Lon.   You built them.
Lots of people have also managed to assemble STG kits into functional
rifles while Hesse apparently FUBAR'd 'em by the thousands.

HELLO!

Thanks for your 12th post - Welcome to our world, and for the most part, the opinions that you see here are from learned, knowledgable and experienced shooters.

SO..., if we say that Vulcan is a POS and that all the guarantees in the world won't back up this rifle, perhaps you should contact your CC company and have them stop payment.

That is unless you're a troll/shill account for FAC (lotta that going around lately)

I would want some kind of a warranty if i were purchasing anything thats upwards of 2g's. You may want to cancel and go with Bluegrass Armory or another reputable company.

Range safety needs to be a major concern with a round such as the 50BMG, what is your backstop?

Isn't the .50bmg a bit large of a caliber to be shooting groundhogs with?

Silly me I came in here thinking maybe, just maybe you bought a rifle from Ronnie Barrett. (With all the people here talking about how they wish they could buy one from him, when stuff about him are posted)

Not if you're using "Vulcan Ammunition"... You know, the kind that EXPLODES halfway downrage, and can take out MULTIPLE groundhogs at once!

what? you guys dont use a .50BMG for groundhogs, chipmunks and squirrel hunting?

i use my .50 BMG regularely at the trap range, you dont even have to hit the clay pigeon, just the sound of the rifle firing makes the clay pigeons explode.

im serious.
