The information wasn't strictly gay info. Condom usage and how to avoid getting STDs works for both hetrosexual and homosexual sex. That said the book is a bit crude, but hell if it keeps some kids from getting an STD, more power to them.

What is your solution, close your eyes and pretend that the problem doesn't exist while you shout "NA NA NA NA NA NA NA" ?

When I had my high school sex ed class about 7 years ago we watched a slide show for about an hour with pictures of nothing but diseased male and female genitals which were infected with various STDs. If that had happened in the south i'm sure there would've been a huge uproar. THINK OF THE CHILDREN

That is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. When I was in third grade, we were taught "sex ed"...but NOTHING like that.

If my children ever had to read a book like that, they would be taken out of school in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even think twice about it.

Has anyone verified that the booklets actually exist and were really handed out to students.

This looks like a hoax.

I don't have a problem with 10th graders and on up being told that condoms may help prevent STD's however, crude wouldn't even begin to describe that crap. The use of slang, poor english -ie How safe is dat? and the fact that this was handed out to 11 eleven year olds is revolting.

"Sex guide made available at BHS
By Monica Deady and Laura Crimaldi and O'Ryan Johnson
Thursday, May 19, 2005

Brookline Superintendent Bill Lupini confirmed claims on Wednesday from an anti gay-marriage activist group that a graphic safe-sex guide for adult gay men was distributed to students at Brookline High School last month.
Lupini told the TAB Wednesday that he received word from Fenway Community Health that a booklet, "Little Black Book: V 2. Queer in the 21st Century," which includes graphic instructions on how to safely perform gay sex acts, was available at the booth for the Peer Information Line.

Philip Finch, director of communications at Fenway Community Health, confirmed that the books were brought, but said it happened "inadvertently."
Finch said that his organization believes that fewer than 10 copies of the book were picked up by conference attendees.
"Fenway Community Health regrets accidentally making available a small number of copies of the 'Little Black Book,' an HIV prevention publication for gay and bisexual men over the age of 18, at an event where young people were present," said Dr. Stephen Boswell, Fenway Community Health's president and CEO, in a press release. He called this an "isolated incident."
Lupini said he learned that a small number of copies of the book were available at the April 30 conference sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, and said because of their explicit nature, their presence violated the terms of the group's use of the high school.
"This material is ... sexually explicit in nature. It is designed, I am told, for an audience of 18 and older and therefore did not belong at this conference," Lupini said. "We had had, through the headmaster [at BHS] specific conversation with GLSEN about the kinds of materials, the age appropriateness of materials and presentations that would be OK in our facility ... and this was not one of them."
Sean Haley of GLSEN initially denied the claim, saying, "The allegations are simply lies. We assign monitors to every workshop and event to assure that all policies are strictly enforced. No such material from AAC [AIDS Action Committee, which produced the booklet] or anyone else were ever present."

On Wednesday, a GLSEN representative could not be immediately reached for comment.
The booklet was described as "vile and disgusting" by Brian Camenker of the anti-gay marriage Article 8 Alliance, which claims it was given to students.
Sally Turner, a retired Carlisle mother, said she picked up the booklet at a table at Brookline High School set up by Fenway Community Health. "I was quite horrified they were promoting homosexuality all the way down to the youngest grades," she said.
Lupini said that up to now he had been getting feedback that the event had been fine, "but again, it doesn't exclude the fact that this material was present," he said. "It didn't belong there."
He said students encouraged the administration to host the conference, and they had agreed, but one of the stipulations had been that no explicit material would be present.
"I want to separate this issue of this material clearly not belonging at this conference from the issue of how we go about in Brookline providing support for the rights of all students," Lupini said, stressing the nature of the conference has nothing to do with their disapproval of the booklet.
Lupini said he could not answer whether or not the school would host the conference again.
The booklet thanks the state Department of Public Health as a supporter. But Gov. Mitt Romney said Wednesday the state did not fund the booklet, and denounced "graphic pornographic material on the gay lifestyle" in schools.
Meanwhile, AAC director Rebecca Haag said, "This is a very targeted publication for gay men over 18 and it should not be misused. However, it is a very effective public health tool for preventing HIV and AIDS. ... We never use sexually explicit materials [in the schools]."

Oops.

We brought them with us but we didn't "know" they were on display.

But, see this page by the sponsors of the event:

www.glsenboston.org/about.htm

OK, so here we go:

Unlike probably most ARFCOMer's I think gay people should be able to whatever the hell they want in their own private homes.

But they cross a line when they expect every corner and every segment of society to "celebrate" gayness with them. There are places where sexual stuff just don't belong. If my kid's 3rd grade teacher comes to class and talks to the kids about how wonderful it felt when her husband nailed her the night before, or talks about the best way to stimulate the G-Spot, or whatever, that has nothing to do with "gay agenda" or whatever. But it is also completely out of place and inappropriate in a middle school setting.

I don't know about you, but when I was in 6th, 7th and 8th grade there was plenty of sex going on. Ignoring the problem isn't going to fix it.

The actions of gay people trying to recruit more fags to their cause proves that deep down they KNOW it's a choice. "I don't have a choice, I was born this way!! By the way, you should be gay too, come on! It's the latest thing!"

I grew up in the South. In high school in Tenn in the 80's, we were show the same photos. I could never look at my cousins the same way again

Explaining to 6th, 7th and 8th graders about oral sex and jerking off isn't going to fix the problem either. Talking about stuff like that to kids of that age robs them of their childhood. Instead of sex, these kids need to learn about more important things.

That is @#ckin disgusting they wont let ya pray or have religion in school but they'll give ya a book on rimming and spiting or swallowing i understand the need for sex ed and even that it needs to be for younger kids than what it used to but everyone doesn't need to know about faggism that in depth if one of my kids brought that home i'd find somebody and whup some ass over that because it is truly disgusting!and then i'd
Link Posted: 5/19/2005 11:06:58 AM EDT
Sex Ed is one thing - it's good and necessary IMHO - but this book is quite another story. It almost sounds encouraging!
Quote"Isn't this a great time to be gay!"..... WTF

If a teacher would give a book like this to my boy he/she would get her behind sued for harassment, child abuse, etc... (incl the school, county, state) after I shoved this piece of literary garbage up her...... never mind.

This is a new low. One of many to come I'm afraid.

Look, some kids get into chemistry and cook up explosives and use them irresponsibly... hey, let's teach - for the sake of public health and the children - in the controlled setting of the classroom - the JOY OF EXPLOSIVES.

We'll start young...first graders. We'll bring in fire-crackers, snap pops, etc. Each grade we will increasingly teach them how fun explosives can be IF USED RESPONSIBLY. We'll show them how they too can cook up the ingredients from common house hold stuff... we'll show them how in class and have them role play.

But then, just as the class is about over we'll remind them in hushed tones 'but don't do this until you feel ready and feel responsible enough to handle the consequences'.

And the more kids blow their fingers and hands off...the more money we'll roll out to INCREASE the chemical lessons and training... we'll highlight HOW FUN IT IS and HOW TO DO IT...and then tell them twice - in hushed tones - to only do it when they feel ready and responsible enough to handle the consequences.

And if any neanderthal claims that we're just teaching kids to build bombs and become terrorists, we'll sneer at them and laugh "what are we supposed to do? Tell them na na na na nah"? They're doing it anyway. They're finding all this stuff in Movies (Terminator 1) and on the Internet... you can't keep your kids in a fishbowl. Ya gotta EXPOSE them to "knowledge and education"...

Yes, and the more explosions become epidemic the more money we'll spend teaching younger and younger kids with more and more graphic details how AWESOME and FUN explosives are...if they're really really sure that they're responsible enough to handle the consequences.

We'll have BOMBER PRIDE DAYS and plays glorifying and lionizing the creators of the H-bomb and others as supreme benefactors of our race... we'll make sure to make life difficult for anyone who refuses to let little Jimmy or Johnny learn the alchemy of making black powder or c-4.

Yes. yes. the glory and fun we'll have... the pursuit of happiness, privacy, and the supreme cult of self (paid for of course by the stupid parents and taxpayers).
Link Posted: 5/19/2005 11:09:29 AM EDT
The detailed description of how to put on a condom is quite disturbing...why the flaming heck are we teaching this to kids of that age?!
Link Posted: 5/19/2005 11:11:44 AM EDT
Its no different than handing out bibles...

some of you sound like you are ready to join Sara Brady, not teaching kids about sex because they might do something is EXACTLY the same defective thought process as not teaching kids about guns and gun safety because they might shoot somebody.

My problem with it is they spend WAY to much time talking about sex, and other social issue crap instead of doing what they are supose to be doing which is learning about science, math, history and English.

And they are taking MY money and teaching the kids about this shit.

You obviously don't realize that STD rate is INCREASING. More kids now know about sex earlier. Do you see a problem here? Corelation?
More teen pregnancies.

Knowledge is NOT power with sex.

Whatever sympathy or tolerance the gay community has (or expects) goes right out the window when shit like that is doled out to kids.

If I was a parent in that district I would be beyond furious. They should pin down Kerry & Kennedy & all the other politicians in their state as to if they approve or disapprove of it (YES or NO) and then crucify them at election time with it.

Queer Community "Leaders" want your children fucking and want to fuck your children.

Plain as that.

And the "moderate" queers in society sit silently and condone these atrocious actions being done in the name of ALL homosexuals. Basically they are accomplices letting the Queer Community "Leaders" psychologically skullfuck our children on behalf of all homosexuals.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Mentally-disease homosexual pedophiles are clear, outright and unopposed representatives for the entire "Queer Community".

In short, they want to devour your children.

Mac's got a point... handing out "instructional information" with ads listing where all the gay bars are is pretty much soliciting kids. Not sure how it could be spun any other way.

Perhaps they figure it is not child molestation if it's "same-sex"

ACLU's got their back I'm sure (in more ways than one)

I'll go on record as being in disagreement that this stuff is motivated by "preditory" desires to "fuck the kids" (literally).

But I do think the effort here is part of an effort _not_ just to avoid persecution for private bedroom conduct. Its part of this whole "gay and in your face" thing, and that's where I have issues. People who are gay but do not let their gayness dominate their entire personal identity seem fine to me. People who want me to celebrate and rejoice at their assless pants, and the like, well -- that's too much.

We acknowledge that heterosexual people who define their entire identiy, self acceptance, and persona in terms of "sex" have problems. I see no reason to apply a different standard to others.

As for the folks "calling out" Kacer or Stoner Student, I think you're being a bit unfair. I don't recall SS or Kacer ever taking more than a live and let live approach here, and Kacer in particular has been at odds with the "accepted" gay groups because of her membership and support of Pink Pistols.

Although I'll not speak for them, I dare say neither one would say that this stuff would be appropriate, just as no heterosexual male or female on this board would advocate for a "sex ed" book that talked about "hetero" watersports, rim jobs, mud shots, etc. So much of this is for me a decorum issue outside of the gay issues. But it is true that some of the gay rights organizations push the envelope with this stuff far and beyond what any hetero group might do.

Sorry, must disagree. The ads for gay bars is clearly an open invitation for UNDERAGE CHILDREN to find a "sanctuary" where they can "be themselves" (ie: get "educated" by older more experienced types)

What (of legal age) people do in their bedroom is their own business. What gets distributed in a TAXPAYER FUNDED 8th grade classroom is everyone's business.

I hope the folks in Brookline realize just what sort of "educators" they are dealing with.

What ever happened to letting parents teach their own kids morality?

If people want kids to have safe sex, and they want to hand out literature, they should be handing out literature to the parents that teaches parents how to teach their kids how to have safe sex, and about the importance of parents talking to their kids, not bypassing the parents on the issue and going straight for the kids.

At least that way it lets the parent decide what they think is appropriate for their own child and leaves the parent's right to choose what morals they want to teach their kid intact.
Link Posted: 5/19/2005 2:41:31 PM EDT
More and more parents hand over the responsibility of teaching their children over to the state.

Telling parents that they should teach their kids about this will illicit "I have to pick up my other child from a soccer game after my 9-hour job let alone figure out what to do for dinner. And Rover needs to go see the vet."

ARFCOM is decidely traditional family oriented (a good thing in my mind) but ARFCOM does not represent the mainstream of America.

And in FiftyCal's gay thread we have people that keep trying to tell me that fags are NOT out to harm children.

Throw gays in jail next to the pedophiles for they come from the same inkwell.

WHAT IN THE SHIT!?

Ok, it's official. It's time to replace our gov. This is ridiculous. If my kid got a book like that at school....... all I can say is...... time to move to a family-friendly state and/or institute homeschooling.

This needs repeating:Am I the only one here paying attention, the book was intended for adults and only accidently did a few copies end up in the hands of juveniles, no junior high anywhere would let this shit into the school knowingly.
And if you think that all homo's are preying on your children you are wrong, and the last I heard there were a HELL of a lot of straight sexual predetors out there.

A school would not give such a "book" to kids.

The book was packed into boxes by the organization.

It was unpacked and set out for display and "take one" purposes at a table.

Now they say "inadvertently."

Wouldn't you have said the same?

Sorry, I've set out dozens of tables at dozens of events I'm involved with. No materials wind up on the tables except what you bring with you.

If you're going to a school, why do you grab the box full of these.
