Is one of the best blues guitar songs ever.

Old-school ZZ Top is amazing.

The Fandango album is great from start to finish.

One of my all time favorites off that album:

Balinese

Fan of the old stuff. Yes, bonus points for the bluesy pieces. A wonderful wall of sound coming out of a 3 piece band.

During a dry spell for them they played a backyard party for a kid in the neighborhood I live in now in the late 70s. My MIL was there and asserts they were "perfect gentleman".

Saw them open for the Stones at the Cotton Bowl in like '82 or something when I was in HS. Was about 20' from the stage. Raining, cold, miserable, friends POS car broke down in the rain on the way home. Still a very fond memory. Saw them later at Reunion in Dallas for the Eliminator tour.

Interviewer: Why don't you wear a long beard like Dusty and Billy?

Frank Beard: Mom says I'm way to pretty to cover my face will all that hair.

Interviewer: What is the smallest crowd you played for?

Billy Gibbons: 1. It was at a county fair. He was by himself in the crowd. We invited him onstage. He would name a song and we would play it. After about 30 minutes he ran out of songs of ours he knew, said "Thanks" and went home. So did we.

I have the ZZ 6-Pack, cd set of their first six albums. I drove all the way across Texas once, from Waskom to El Paso, listening to nothing but early ZZ.

Another anecdote.

Guy I used to work with was a bell boy or whatever you call them at a fancy hotel in downtown Dallas. The guy that carries your bags for you. It was a weekend gig during HS that supposedly raked in much cash.

One weekend ZZ Top and The Grateful Dead were in town at the same time. This guy makes a room service delivery to Billy Gibbons room. BG comes to the door then steps out into the hall in his underwear, a hat and a guitar slung. They make idle chat while BG strums along. As he was leaving, friend tells BG, "Hey Jerry Garcia is across the hall and a few doors down from you." BG replies, "Is he fatter than me?" Friend responds in the affirmative. BG goes back in the room, comes back, hands him $20 and says "Good answer young man." Then goes back in his room and closes the door.

This guy met all kinds of bands that came to Dallas at the time. His autograph collection is something to see.
