A friend of mine from Texas used to harp about Big Red Cola, and Blue Bell ice cream. Living in Va. I never heard of em.

I got to try Big Red. It tasted like bubble gum or something. I did not like it.

FINALLY Blue Bell made its way here. Major advertisement lately. I read reviews where it was voted best store bought vanilla icecream. I liked it better than Briars. Its not bad. I don't know it it lived up to the hype.

But does anything ever?

All native Texans. Its just an opinion. But Big Red fail. Blue Bell. Pretty good. But is it THAT good? If you read the container it sure is.

Big Red is a soft drink created in 1937 by Grover C. Thomsen and R.H. Roark in Waco, Texas[1] and originally known as Sun Tang Red Cream Soda. It is generally classified as an American variety of cream soda which is almond in flavour, and it is the original "red cream soda." T

Cream soda, not cola.

Don't mess with an overweight gas station cashier on soda classification.

Meh, Texans.

They're the ones that keep telling us that Shiner is good beer. What did you expect?

Besides, they can't even chili right.

Damn Yankees.

I live 35 miles from Brenham, TEXAS, site of the original Blue Bell factory. One more reason to be proud of TEXAS!!!

Shiner has made many different beers. Which one are you talking about?

Yeah, Big Red is nasty.

Blue Bell ice cream is GREAT.
Link Posted: 3/19/2013 7:23:05 PM EDT
Mix them together and it is probably going to be pretty good.

I don't care for either too much though.

Milk chocolate Blue Bell is best Blue Bell.

Big Red sucks. Dr Pepper is best and was still invented in Texas so we're still gtg.

There is not enough bandwidth available to list all of the way that Texas is better than Virginia.

Brahms Ice Cream will run circles around Blue Bell.
Link Posted: 3/19/2013 7:27:57 PM EDT
i'm a bit biased--was born in brenham, the home of blue bell.

never much cared for big red, however.

Shiner Ruby Redbird is my favorite. Grabbed 4 cases the other day because it's seasonal.

I like beans in my chili.

big red is the nastiest thing I have ever had ranking worse than liver and brussel sprouts

I can't think of the Shiner I had. It's the only one I've ever seen up here. Brb.

ETA: It's their Bock. I didn't think it was that great. Not awful, just kind of underwhelming.

You never had Blue Bell before? I am so, so sorry. All that lost time, and it can never be regained.

The only Big Red I know is a chewing gum.

Moved to Texas 3 years ago.

Shiner Bock is good. Blue Bell Cookies and Cream even better.

And Mint Chocolate Chip. Blue Bell and Baskin Robbins are the only GOOD mint chocolate chips out there. The others have a too strong creme de menthe taste and *chunks* of chocolate.

Sacrilege, I tell you.

Liver and Brussels sprouts are awesome. Although liver is better with fava beans and a nice Chianti supsupsup

I used to like Big Red. Somewhere along the way they changed the flavor slightly and it just isn't the same.

Barq's red cream soda is better.

Big red is terrible IMO.

Bluebell is pretty awesome. And their creamery is roughly 30 minutes from where I live. Cool place to go on a date and sample a little ice cream.

Brahms is also awesome from what I remember 20-ish years ago. But again that was 20 years ago and pretty much everything taste great when your under the age of 10. I have no current imperical data to support this.

Shiner Bock is best from the keg. It is the beer we have at family reunions, the keg doesn't travel more than 20 miles from the brewery so it is good and fresh.

big red is not cola! i grew up with big red and blue bell homemade vanilla float as a dessert.

born and raised in Waco, but i think red flash cream soda is the best.

And yes, Blue Bell is very very good.

You mean my quick wit and sparkling personality wasn't enough?

Is it the beans that won you over?

There are some red cream sodas, but Big Red is not a cream soda.

I've got the same impression from Lone Star. That shit's only for old folks on fixed incomes and tourists.

Blue bell ice cream is only sold in 20 states and is the third best selling ice cream in the US.

Big Red is something you first tried as a child and like it or you won't ever like it. It's strawberry flavored, more or less. I happen to like it. Not my favorite coke but it's okay. It's actually good with bbq as long as it's ice-cold.

But yeah, they did change something in the formulation a couple years ago and it's not what it used to be. Maybe quit using the ground up beetles for the color? Not sure.

But I won't hear no goddamned back-talk re Blue Bell ice cream!!!

Big Red is ok. Cheerwine is king though. Get it in the glass bottles with pure sugar.

We have families from New York and the Northwest , California etc, that come to visit their relatives here and they buy up all they can to take back with them. Hard to beat. Very good with Ice Cream, though it isn't really an Ice Cream soda.
