I used to go to a bar in northern New Jersey that had Guinness Stout and Harp on tap. It was a redneck part of Jersey and the bar manager was a Polish woman. Go figure.

I don't know how come I didn't die in that place. A good chunk of my liver is still in their septic tank.

ETA JAMESONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dogfish Head's alehouses will pour you a B&T that's half 90-minute IPA on the bottom and half Chicory stout on top.

It only layers properly some of the time.  As a craft beer, there's some variance in final gravity with both of the products.  You need enough of a difference for them to layer properly.

Oh, but when they do...

I'm still trying to figure out how a place that should have featured Coors Light and Old Milwaukee was the only place, outside of Manhattan, where I could get a real black and tan. I'll add this: amateurs were not welcome in that place on Saint Patrick's Day. Some n00b came in on that night and made a comment about the number of people out for Saint Paddy's. A Very Large Customer answered back, "Whaddaya think we stop drinking the rest of the year y'asshole?"

The Lakeview Pub took some getting used to.

The ears should be long enough so that when gently pulled forward they overlap the nose.

I got a dog at the pound.  He was black and tan.  He was a shepard/akito mix.  He was 5 months old.  I didn't know what to name him.  I just kept coming up with Guinness and Harp.  I finally named him Guinness N. Harp.  We lost him this year, and it was very sad.  I still like my black and tans', but I miss him the most!

In the N.West we get the proper gravities.  I've had four layers that stay separate.  Sometimes when there's very little difference but with the skill of a  good bar maid the brews will layer.....for a while...and then start to slide.  Makes for a very good evening!  And the bar maid gets good tips

Black and Tans were the hard ass veteran British soldiers the empire brought over to suppress the Irish rebellion after WWI.
