Ok I've seen the movie 50 bazillion times, Like any true arfcommer I own it.  Anyway re: the bald ranger Captain.  When he says "sergeant" does it sound to yawl like he's sayin "Sarn"?  Or am I crazy.

Uh huh, I get to post from work  What's amazing is the amount of time I spend on here reading tech forums and occaisonally (rarely) asking questions in them trying to learn.  Most of my posts are in GD, and in Hometown.  The only tech forum I post in on a regular basis is Glock.  I know a lil something about glocks.  Until a year or so ago my only experience with long guns were bolt  guns.  I've learned a LOT here.

You heard close to right. It was "Sarnt".
Some "Sarnts" don't mind that sloppy pronounciation, and some do.

How do you think Capt. Steele would have reacted if one of his NCO's called him "Cap'n"?

Who cares, he was to busy having a better Texas accent than any texan I've ever known.  And someone explain this to me.

Eric Bana--"Hoot"
Ewan Mcgregor
Ewen Bremmer
The Dude that played Capn Steele

Tom Sizemore
Josh Hartnett
Sam Shepard
William Fichtner

One of the greatest movies ever made about American war heros.  2 of the top four guys listed played guys with fairly country accents and did a good job.  All 4 of the top guys are british WTF?

Well, I was addressed as 'Lou' and 'Ell-Tee', I don't think 'Sarnt' or 'Cap'n' are that bad.

I think Sarnt is just a  shortend version of Sergent.

That some people use

From WIKIpeida

Sarnt
(U.S. Army, Canada and UK) Informal for Sergeant.

I think a good poll would be whether you would do what Shughart and Gordan did? Those two guys are the definition of selfless bravery.

Someone who can make a poll should do that one for us night poeple

The guy that played Captain Steel is an english guy. He had an overexagerated accent I think, unless the real Captain Steel talks like that. Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor, and even Orlando Bloom all did a pretty good job of doing an American accent in my opinion.

When I was in the army it seemed to me that anyone with a very heavy southern accent and was an E-5 or higher always somehow managed to say Sarn't instead of Sargeant.

This is my 2 cents worth.
