I gotta admit I was pleasantly surprised at how different the people are comparing living in a big city to small town America when it comes to things like Black Friday. Growing up in Dallas, Black Friday was always a day I just wouldn't go out. You really got to see how ugly people can get. I lived in TX for 27 years and participated in Black Friday one time.
Since moving to Montrose both years I've been working but also shopping and I must admit the difference is shocking but in a good way. Montrose like so many smaller towns is a closer community. Lot of older folks, retirees and their families, veterans etc live here and during the holidays it shows. This year's sales went off without a hitch. I spent a lot of time before the event talking to people and you really see the difference in personalities.
One person would ask the others around them "What movie are you looking for? Oh it's over here I can grab one for you. "Oh that would be great are there any movies you were needing?"
Everyone was very calm and happy to be there. By about 9:30 we were done and started cleaning up by that point. You compare it to shoppers in places like where I grew up and it was like night and day. I'm not saying everyone that participates in Black Fri are animals but you really do see a more positive take on it in small town America at least in my experience.
