Sheee-it.
Wanna hear a good one? An uncle and cousin drive cross country. My cousin is joining the Navy, she's going to medical school on their nickel, when she gets out (14 year contract) she'll be an MD with 7 years of practice behind her. She's going to an officer course in Newport for a month, then to Bethesda Hospital to start school (she's got her Masters in Phsychology and has been working in health care for a few years). She beat cancer a couple of years ago, straight A's in school (up through her Masters), and we are all very proud of her! She'll be the first officer in our family in recorded history (back to 1664).
She's staying with Uncle #2, a liberal jock college professor, the ONLY male member of our family still alive who ISN'T a vet. He was 4F during Vietnam, and spent the war in college. His wife is a teacher in a public school, and is a little lightheaded. Uncle #1, cousins Dad, is a Vietnam era volunteer (technical job, not in Vietnam) and a full time military historian/author/illustrator/ DA employee.
Sooooo, last night they get in, go over to liberal land. After the welcoming, cousin gets hit with the line "Why don't you got to a real medical school?", "You know how I feel about the military" (no, do tell?), and the all important "I don't know why anyone would join the military" lines. She was a little shocked by this, and hurt. She only sees those of us on the east coast every five years or so, and really didn't expect such a "warm" welcome.
I'm thinking of wearing my "Kill'em all" shirt to their next family function. I WILL be sticking a DVDTracker "Peace Through Superior Firepower" Sticker on their Volvo (of course. They have TWO Volvo's, like good pinkoes).
I WILL be dressing my youngest in my prized uniform- a one piece jumpsuit my uncle sent me from Okinowa when I was five (1970). It's duck hunter style camo, like early SF in Vietnam wore, with military patches all over it. That should cause some fits. I'm going to make sure my older son tells them that I built him a FAL when he was born, and that it will be his one day. His baseball cap sports DVDTracker "Peace" pin, too. Maybe I'll kill their dog and grill it, too.
I can't believe these freaking people. Another example of "loving, open minded, tolerant" liberal butt wipes. I can't believe I'm related to them.
