Installing a BiPod on my Bolt action rifle. Should the 'pod fold forward or backward? Any reason one way is better than the other?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I fold mine forward.

I used to fold it backwards...then I tried shooting with it folded up. I'll tell ya, the bipod legs (especially on my Swivel base equipped Harris) makes for a very poor forearm, gripwise!

So that when they're deployed you can "push" into them without fear of them folding.

if you put then facing backwards, if you apply forward pressure on your rifle to fire then the stock wil colapse. Not saying noone does it this way but i have not see it done that way.

If you mount them backwards wouldn't any forward pressure on the stock (like a guy wanting to shoot the gun) cause the legs to fold?

I have mine mounted so the legs are pulled down from the folded position toward the you. Mounting the other way I would think that the legs have more of a chance to be folded by recoil?

Forward for several reasons... So you can load it, faster to deploy and you can use them to rest on barricade / supports etc...

My FAL bipod folds backwards into the hand guard. Definitely

to shoot.

You are supposed to fold forward, so you can "Load" them to increase stability.

Forward is normal.

I have only seen one person have them fold backward. He also had a BSA 6-16x50 scope mounted on sight through rings to a savage .243...he was one of those guys who does not adjust the scope, but instead held a bit to the left and high inorder to hit a paperplate at 100 yards.

I prefer backwards, but I also prefer bipods that tuck or hide away. Since such seem to be uncommon these days, I just don't bother with bipods at all. A bipod can be nice but it is hardly a necessity.

small firearms (ARs etc.) they fold forwards.

Large firearms (AR50, etc) I fold rear so they don't hang up on shit while carrying.

So I take it a bunch of guys here never really shoot their rifles? Just buy the stuff, mount it, and put it ona shelf to look at?

Should be fold forward so that if you dive down, towards the ground, they won't clapse. That's the best I can describe at the moment...
