Another good company is American. You might be able to save a bunch by having someone with a freight company billing account handle the shipping for you. You would simply reimburse them for the cost. It wasn't uncommon for freight companies to give 50% discounts to good customers. You probably know someone who works for a company that does a fair amount of LTL shipping.

This may sound crazy, but if you have a Greyhound bus terminal in your area, try them, a company I used to work for shipped heavy/bulky items with them for the price of a ticket!
