The 1917? There really is no substatute for real, steel perfection.

Sig P220 is made of metal.
I wouldn't buy a new Sig, though. Heard to many horror stories about modern Sig QC. |

All stainless Sig P220. There are always several on Gunbroker. This would be my preference. I love P220's.
CZ97 is also an excellent choice. |
|
Having shot my first 220 a couple weeks ago I am going to have to jump on that bandwagon.

|
Had a P220ST and it was awesome but too heavy to carry. That or the CZ97B (never had) would be a good choice...

Quoted: What about 3rd Gen S&W such as the 4506? I completely forgot about those. Smith made a nice .45. I prefer the slightly shorter 4566, but they all were nice guns. |

Sig 220.
Hence why after I got my I promptly sold my SS Springfield 1911A1. The Sig is lighter, handles better, is more accurate and has better ergo's and features, one being the DA/SA trigger with decocker (at least on the model I have). |

Some of you need to specify on the Sigs cause not all of the 220s are steel...The OP said steel...

I had an S&W 745, fine pistol. I sometimes wish I hadn't sold it. I have a CZ 97B, it's a fine gun as well.

First firearm I ever shot. |

CZ-97B: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4002/4466754189_c2314fa251_z.jpg?zz=1 P220 is an alloy frame, not steel, IIRC. P220ST; both frame and slide are stainless steel. |

Why not get a FNP45 and have the best handgun ever made? Is it steel framed? |
|
Quoted:
Ruger P90, but the frame is aluminum. Agreed on both counts. The P90 is a great gun but not steel framed. |

EAA Witness http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii81/dphill15/205.jpg And you can get a .22lr conversion kit too. This... Mine is very accurate. |

Smith and Wesson 4506...and don't waste a post telling me they are crap. I've seen way too many of these go forever.
|
|
Damn...beat me to it. There is also a .45acp version of the Baby Eagle which is really nice as well. |
|
FN-FNP in 45 has been the best polymer pistol I have found thus far. I prefer my 1911 though even if it only holds 7 or 8 rounds at a time.
reading comprehension was not my strong suite on the ASVAB. That said, Sig P220 |
