Hello all,

I'm looking for a decent quality magazine-fed .22 bolt action rifle.  I would like to keep the cost reasonable (no Anshutz or Kimber, please) but I'm looking for the "best bang for the buck".

Anyone have any recommendations?  I have a Marlin .22 and the accuracy is so-so . . . I want a bolt to keep the noise down for the sub-sonic ammo.

Thanks!

EDITED . . . one day I'll get a lobotomy and all will be well  Thanks ARDOC!

Those romainian trainers for like $60 bucks are hard to beat.

I doubt you will find a CLIP fed 22 bolt action.  Maybe a magazine fed rifle.

Is there a Garand .22 LR conversion?

That would be a clip fed .22.

edit - I found the answer:

"Tack Driver"?

Yep. You know the saying about hitting the nail on the head, with respect to accuracy, and perhaps relevance too, for that matter. The shooting community has a similar phrase for describing the accuracy of a firearm — you could use it to drive tacks at 100 yards.

How about a Marlin 980V

I hate to say it - go to wally world and check out the marlin.

They have a killer deal on a Marlin in .17 hmr heavy barrel for like 189 - I bought my last year for x-mas to my self.

Later,

You might want to try one of the Henry lever action .22's.  It's not a bolt action but you can shoot any kind of .22 out of it.

+1...I shot one with a scope one time and it shot great...trigger wasn't bad either.

I have a Mossberg model 46 b.  It is by far the best .22 I have ever shot. Only problem, they quit building them in the 1940's.

the tube magazine holds 18 LRs.

But if you can find one for $200 or less it is well worth it.

Ditto on Romainian. I Found one at the local shop. Butt cleaning kit included. Out the door with 1 mag, good looking rifle, little sling, background check, and taxes for under $75. They are getting harder to find, but it is a great little shooter.

Sorry, can't edit. Try looking at SOG. They say they still have Romanians for about $60.

I have a Marlin 880SQ. I really like it and I got it on gunbroker for <$200. Its probably a tackdriver, but I'm not.

The key to accuracy in 22lr is simply finding a round that your gun likes to eat, IMO.

I have one of these I'm thinking of selling to buy a HB gun.  Let me know if you want to look at it at the build party.
